-Amethyst- 1,883
I feel like contrary to kpop, jpop isn't influenced by the western industry which is cool. it makes them more unique. I mean when you see the whole 48 groups it's totally different. But i don't know if japan has just an old fashioned mind in terms of music or it's just thay they want to keep their uniqueness !? 아니 천사 2,260
Jpop is influenced by western music? They have their own traditional music styles that are timeless in their own rights, but a lot of their music still holds western elements.

evil4life 3,270
I mean when you see the whole 48 groups it's totally different. you might wanna do a bit more research for your argument if AKB48 is the best you can come up with J-pop has ALWAYS been influenced by Western music and in fact the highest selling album by Japanese American Utada Hikaru was heavily influenced by R&B. Namie Amuro became a fashion icon for her heavy use of western fashion and her debut solo album incorporated a number of western sounds from R&B and jazz. LDH artists like GENERATIONS and EXILE are also known for heavily incorporating a western like sound to their music so sorry you can say a lot about J-pop but to say they don't care about Western music like K-pop is incorrect

davidguy 2,527
The vast majority of MVs that get posted to the Japanese section get at best like 50-100 views on this site. It's highly apparent that people aren't interested in checking out other acts outside of 48G/46G, so I don't think it's very fair to make such a statement. katsu curry chips 7,808
i'll post a few examples for you! i feel like that might be better than just us telling you you're wrong... there are many more but above you have a few: tropical, power pop, hip hop, r'n'b you're not wrong in stating that jpop seems to have its own thing - that's natural for an industry so mature and diverse. but its unique qualities and broader range doesn't cancel out its heavy influence by global and western trends. that's in its dna. i think a lot of jpop wotas here, myself included, dislike this sort of argument bc it usually paints a very one dimensional and lacklustre picture of jpop, often by kpop fans who aren't very knowledgeable or interested and either dismiss jpop as just being 48Gs ("cute, quirky, sexualised") or think it's just like kpop, or that it's completely its own thing and again, too *weird* to be *cool* or comparable to kpop. all of which is incorrect to wotas who have been in this for a long time. abra 40,910
The biggest hit in Japan right now is literally called U.S.A. But the Japanese music industry is too big and varied to generalize it any which way

woahh 20
Is it that hard for people to understand that j-music is made by Japanese people for Japanese people? They do not look for international approval (like kpop) because their own market is enough to make it survive it. They create and follow their own trends after all lol
