Article: "Son Heung Min can but BTS can't... What's the criteria?"

Source: Choson Ilbo via Naver

1. [+17870, -2014] Celebrities can easily have a comeback after a 21-month hiatus. But if sports stars take a 21-month hiatus, it's hard for them to recover their sports skills. Also, their competitors might take their spots during the hiatus.

2. [+12275, -1473] Go to bed instead of writing a stupid article like this ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ Stop reaching, you think Son Heung Min and BTS are the same? What did BTS do for the nation?

3. [+6663, -249] Why is this mentioning Son Heung Min? Son Heung Min didn't get exempt because he's Son Heung Min, he's exempt because he won a gold medal.

4. [+5693, -192] BTS is a business form for personal profits but sports is a category that represents Korea. What is this crap?

5. [+5712, -220] PSY: I enlisted twice.

6. [+2668, -61] BTS did enhance national prestige in some ways, but they're commercial singers. Their only purpose is business profits, not national profits. If you think BTS is bringing foreign currencies, then what about the workers of major companies that do a lot of exports? Stop talking nonsense. Hallyu was already established and BTS is doing well, don't interrupt BTS like this.

7. [+1885, -52] Son Heung Min is a national player who gets paid by the nation. BTS is artists who get paid by their private enterprise.

8. [+1658, -57] I'm a guy and I like BTS, but this isn't right ã…‹ã…‹ Sports players and singers are different. If BTS get exempt, then what about other singers? What should be the criteria for military service exemption? Charting on the billboard? That doesn't make sense because the billboard chart might be influential but it's still an American chart whereas the Asian Games and the Olympics are global competitions.

I don’t see the difference between either I don’t like sports so I don’t know the other guy but bts gets mentioned in international newspapers/news stations so how is that not representing the nation after all the money they brought to the korean economy too? and having their LG adverts showing globally? Pathetic they just hate Idol singers even if they make a differenc

my question is why are media outlets suddenly talking about this when barely anybody even demanded exemption for BTS? Bighit certainly never said anything, BTS never said anything, only a handful of fans ever said anything on the K-side, nowhere near enough to be taken seriously. BTS would like to be excluded from this narrative.

Journalists and fans who keep bringing this up are only hurting BTS's reputation. Charting on Bilboard is in no way an argument to be exempt from enlistment. Armys keep telling everyone, it's a win for BTS not kpop or South Korea.

Fans are not the ones who started this or even the ones making post about this in Korea.

It's the political parties using BTS for their agendas.

99% of fans are against bringing bts up in this conversation. we want bts' achievements celebrated yet south korean media has been focused on enlistment ever since the bb200 news came out like it's something that ANYONE asked for.

Fuck all the politicians and journalists who used BTS names for their own agendas. Their achievements articles couldn't even make it to the Naver main pages but this kind of articles did. If this ain't obvious enough. Armys couldn't even celebrate BTS' achievements in peace because of nasty journalists and politicians. Fck y'all. Freaking morons. Ain't nobody asked for their exemptions. BTS and BH said nothing. Armys said nothing and JTBC news even had the gall to accused armys.

It's not ARMYs bringing this up. We know how hurtful this is to BTS' reputation, we don't want exemption for them. We wish these journalists stopped bringing this up, there is obviously malicious intent behind these articles. This same talk keeps showing up every time BTS hits the news for an achievement.
