Domestic Abuse Advert Shines Light On Male Abuse

Recommended Posts

I wonder what goes through their minds.

"At least he's not hitting HER."

"That guy is so whipped!"

"He must be so embarrassed."

"If I say something, it will just make it worse for them later."

"Someone else will do something."

Yeah it's expected. I mean, we humans in general believe the mAn is stronger then the woman so if a woman is beating on a man, then we all expect for the man to be fully able to defend himself since he's stronger.

However if he does defend himself, then people start feeling bad for the girl.

DAMN IT PEOPLE!!!! DOUBLE STANDARD NEEDS TO STOP!

Obviously domestic abuse shouldn't be encouraged from either male or female but what is with this "equality" everyone is not equal certainly not in strength. There is a reason why sports is separated male w/ male female w/ female, outside of a woman being maybe more taller or built than another man, it is easy for a man to knock out a woman. Women certainly shouldn't laugh or dismiss another woman abusing a man but it's much more common for a man to beat and abuse a woman.

It's not THAT more common, what is more common is that men cause more damage. Women tend to hit more, but less powerful blows. Though even that is just an average, I'm a 6'5", 230 pound, muscular guy and even I know plenty of women who can beat the shit out of me. Just because on average that women are less muscular or as big built as men, let's not assume that all women are physically inferior to men. There is more than enough women out there that can cause some serious damage to men. But BECAUSE of this idea of "Man Strong, Woman Vulnerable" men are not able to hit back to defend themselves because then THEY are the aggressor.

Men should not be able to hit back or at the very least defend themselves in a different way. You really think that men should be able to hit women?... Why do you think there are classes specifically geared for women to defend themselves against men?...Because if a man were to hit a woman it would cause more damage. My point is that women are more likely to be the victim of domestic violence, abuse, etc. than men are.

So you think if a man is being beaten up by a woman they can't do anything about it? You're making very big generalizations here. There are many many men that go to the police to report they've been beaten up by a woman and then are just sent home again because of the same reasoning you are giving...that women are weaker than men. ON AVERAGE women have less body mass than men and thus are more likely to be a victim but there are MILLIONS of exceptions to that...it's because of this generalization that thousands, if not millions of men are being abused by women and nobody does anything about it to help them.

Like I said violence is violence and it shouldn't be accepted or ignored whether it's men against women or women against men but from the comments that  I am reading as if men are victims the same as women is absolutely ridiculous. The violence that men inflict on women should be considered an epidemic from religion considering women being seen as less than, the media from music to movies, etc. I'm not saying that women don't cause this to themselves because in many cases they do but it is ingrained in not just American society but in most countries that women are less than men and should only be used for men's pleasure. It's widely accepted, I would even say that if someone were being racist or homophobic, many more people would catch on to that than they would if a man were being sexist towards a woman.

It's because in the media violence against women is treated as an international crisis while violence against men is at best treated as something that just happens like background noise ("20 people died in a bombing today. Among them were at least 5 women and children"), and at worst like a joke ("lol omg that guy just got kicked in the balls!").

Those people in the video weren't even laughing because they felt uncomfortable or anything, they were laughing at a guy who they assumed had done something to deserve the wrath of his angry girlfriend. "Ohhh snap, somebody's sleeping on the couch tonight" kind of laughter.

Men cause more damage with their bare hands, but women are much more likely to use weapons. Women are also better at psychological abuse, while men are worse at dealing with emotional trauma. All in all it more or less evens out to a similar amount of suffering, so I wish people would stop trying to make excuses.

People tend to ignore the fact that men usually don't hit back, too. Be it social conditioning or natural instinct, men just don't fight back against women that often. They usually cite reasons like they're afraid to hurt her or they're afraid of going to jail.

Many places also have "primary aggressor" laws, which means that even if a man calls in that he's being abused by a woman, he is the one who will be arrested in the situation because they assume that he's the one who started it and she was simply defending herself. If they find any marks on her at all (even if they're from him defending himself) she could even send him to prison potentially. This makes men extremely unlikely to report their abuse in those areas. Couple that with the near complete lack of male abuse shelters, and you can quickly see why the reports for male abuse are so low even though in general (regardless of who is considered the "victim" in the situation) women are more likely to initiate domestic violence than men.

Something that I find quite interesting is that people are very willing to ignore male victims of violence (even though they make up a large majority) because men tend to initiate violence more often... but when it comes specifically to domestic violence, which women initiate more often, men are still the ones who are ignored (even though the estimated victimhood rates are much closer). Methinks the first example is just an excuse to ignore men and focus on women tbh, since the result is the same for both.

But there are also millions of women that get abused with noone to help them. Women don't only have the disadvantage of being physically weaker on average, but also other factors. In many countries, it is still considered ok for a husband to beat the wife, so noone would help her.

The video posted above only applies to some countries.

How dare people to encourage any type of domestic violence??, is more common on woman and that's why the media focuses on that, i really respect when people talk about male victims believing they are weak or less man for being abused by a woman, is sexism both against the abuser and the abused. Because it implies they are not equal.
