so I looked up the drama and apparently it's based off a manga so I'm not sure if they can deviate from the source, but they should have just left it a manga instead of dramatizing it

The content of Jdramas has stopped surprising me for a while. Wasn't there a drama in the nineties with the exact same premise, just with a high schooler instead? It's that drama that had Utada Hikaru's First Love as an OST.
