Do you enjoy the democratization of the music industry?

By this, I mean how in the past decade, basically anyone can get a record deal. All you have to do is get an internet buzz going and you can get a deal. The labels are hoping internet buzz can turn into real money so they sign these acts. Before, talent was more of a factor in getting a deal and the labels had more say and were gatekeepers in a sense.

On one hand, there's those music.ly kids who kinda suck but are still selling their music anyways cause of media presence. On the other hand, it's easier for people to achieve their dreams so I'm on the fence about it.

But should you achieve your dream of being a music star if you're shit at music? It's like being a surgeon that doesn't know how to operate, but is a surgeon becuase it's their dream.

Yeah.... There's also that. But there's a chance it'll make it easier for people who are actually talented to get noticed. That's really the only upside I can think of at the moment.

Music isn't anywhere as serious as something you have to go to school for years for.

A bad singer being successful in selling music/merch hurts no one.

Buying into personality isn't really a new concept.

The thing is though is when the labels had more control and were serving as gatekeepers, this was less of a thing. Now it's the main thing.

I love that you think the industry was just rich, old white men.

Did I ever say just?

Obviously there is other labels but a majority of the big ones aren't made/run by poor black/asian/mexican people.

You said the past decade so if were talking recent 90s/00s our pop stars weren't from independent labels.

You do realize that there are more people in charge than just the CEO, right?

And you do realize that the industry is actually less diverse behind the scenes now, right?

Which is why I said, it's a good thing rich white man aren't the sole deciding fact now.

I know how a company works and like most companies the highest ranking employees are probably white men.

I never even brought up CEOs lol.

Naw I am you're just not interested in differing opinions which is obvious because every thread you make containing a question you proceed to tell people why you think their wrong lmao. You've done it for awhile too.

But how are you going to say that rich, old white men decided everything and now then when I said that the industry is actually less diverse now, which is one of the reasons that there are less prominent black artists now and less of a range of black artists?
