Lets put it this way

 

 

 

 

If I as a trans woman, went into full time activism constantly promoting my ideals and beliefs, to try and create a safer world for trans people, and end up setting up a big campaign and spectacle for it, and end up committing suicide for that cause, then I could become a martyr

 

 

Or if say, someone is fighting against prejudice which they face, to rally people to their cause, they may end up willingly let themselves get attacked by that prejudice and even get killed, e.g lynched

 

Which could come across as suicide because they were intentionally letting their self get killed

 

 

And then they could be a martyr

 

 

Basically any suicide story could become a martyrdom as long as it has the PR and press coverage for it

Suicide bombers are trying to kill others though not just themselves that isn’t exactly martyr like you aren’t just dying then you’re actively trying to kill others for a belief

 

And this is still a big difference from plain suicide

martyrdom is specifically for beliefs while suicide in general isn’t

any suicide story can’t because not all suicide stories are because of a religion or belief

Like I said it’s not just press that makes a difference

OKAY THIS HAS TO CHANGE RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND

 

Suicide bombers are trying to kill others though not just themselves that isn’t exactly martyr like you aren’t just dying then you’re actively trying to kill others for a belief

 

And this is still a big difference from plain suicide

Its not just press that makes a difference but the press can turn any suicide into a martyr story depending on how they will choose to portray it

If the victim didn’t share the beliefs then it’s not technically martyrdom so no if the person themselves didn’t die or suffer because of their own beliefs they’re not martyrs how media portrays it doesn’t change that

They can make it seem like they are but they won’t suddenly become martyrs

You dont understand it doesnt matter bc the person is ALREADY DEAD so they can be turned into a symbol, a victim, a criminal of whatever as long as the press choose which one is more favorable $$ for them

Even if everyone “thinks†they are still doesn’t change the difference between suicide and martyrdom there’s an inherent difference

Just because you believe something is true doesn’t automatically make it true

 

Martyrdom necessitates the victims belief in something resulting in their death (killed or suicide) or torture

Suicide doesn’t and suicide always necessitates killing yourself while martyrdom doesn’t and it doesn’t include torture

That’s the difference
