Suicide bombers kill themselves whilst killing others in the name of their cause in order to become martyrs....

 

 

 

As long as they are dying whilst fighting what they believe in, they can become a martyr

 

 

1 : a person who voluntarily suffers death as the penalty of witnessing to and refusing to renounce a religion

 

Suicide is a voluntary death so that doesn't refute it

 

2 : a person who sacrifices something of great value and especially life itself for the sake of principle

 

Suicide is sacrificing their own life so that doesn't refute it either

 

3 : victim; especially : a great or constant sufferer

 

People who commit suicide normally are victims of something and have greatly and consistently suffered, so still doesn't refute it

As a penalty of refusing to renounce a religion/belief

Now I’m not studying every and all cases for suicide bombers but most aren’t being forced to renounce under penalty of death they’re doing it because of the religion yes but to be a martyr you’d have to be actively forced and told to renounce it or else you’d be tortured or killed

 

And even if we did include suicide bombers there’s still a distinction between them and plain suicide there are different reasons for plain suicide like depression while suicide bombers only do it because of religion so there’s your distinction not just press coverage

If I as a trans woman, went into full time activism constantly promoting my ideals and beliefs, to try and create a safer world for trans people, and end up setting up a big campaign and spectacle for it, and end up committing suicide for that cause, then I could become a martyr

 

 

 

Or if say, someone is fighting against prejudice which they face, to rally people to their cause, they may end up willingly let themselves get attacked by that prejudice and even get killed, e.g lynched

 

 

Which could come across as suicide because they were intentionally letting their self get killed

 

 

 

And then they could be a martyr

 

 

 

 

 

Basically any suicide story could become a martyrdom as long as it has the PR and press coverage for it
