Gays, what is the best gay film out there?

I really love The Handmaiden, hands down my favourite lesbian erotic thriller period piece precious fave. Other than that I really liked Carol for the chemistry between Rooney and Blanchett.

I also really liked Call Me By Your Name though I think it isn't as good when you haven't read the novel first because a lot of it goes unexplained and simply follows the novel without explanation, which can be confusing. Also I still love Brokeback Mountain lol I'm a melancholy gay what can I say and the first time I saw that film it blew me away. rlytearpls.png

Blue is the Warmest Colour seems to kind of have been deleted from gay cinema history but I actually thought it was a really good film if you ignore the odd sex scenes? It was the first film I ever saw about two girls about my age falling in love that felt very familiar to me, so it holds a special place in my heart.

Oh and then there's A Single Man which is simply a masterpiece. I watched it two times now but there are so many memorable scenes in that movie, it's really iconic to me. It's also an amazing performance by Colin Firth.

I want more films to watch! DiscussT! ahmagahplz.png

I don't watch many gay movies but Blue is the Warmest Colour is an all time favourite for me. Everything from the acting, storyline and directing was really good. Unfortunately the director had to include porn in it for shock value and everyone focuses on that instead.

I'll list my fave asian/lesser known ones bc i feel like the western ones are well known?? I really loved Moonlight and all of the ones you mentioned though. Love, Simon was also pretty cute and the new netflix one Alex Strangelove is okay. The Way He Looks is beautiful too.

My fave one of all time is a Korean movie called No Regret. Seriously recommend

I also love No Touching At All, Water Boyy The Movie, Hidamari ga Kikoeru, Red Wine in the Dark Night, Night Flight, My Bromance, Udagawachou de Matteteyo and The Blue Hour

British Invasion!

Get Real - high school coming out film. Very touching and real, especially for gays who grew up in that era.

Beautiful thing - Love story between 2 teens on a council estate. Very sweet.

My Beautiful Laundrette - Romance between an asian guy and a white guy. Really great as it highlights differences in cultures. The asian repression of homosexuality and the white guys struggle with acceptance as he is part of a racist group/political party.

Others people mentioned good ones. I'd skip I killed my mother and watch heartbeats instead.

"A Single Man" is such a masterpiece! UGH! SO GOOD.

I also (HIGHLY) recommend "Eu Não Quero Voltar Sozinho" or "I Don't Want to Go Back Alone".

It's a short, a beautiful one (it's on YouTube) but it was so successful that it was made into a movie, with the same actors.

Please watch it! It's so sweet.

The Way He Looks is one of the cutest movies I've ever watched. It's light and easy to watch imo.

Yes! LOVE IT SO MUCH

As many others in this thread already said, hands-down "The Handmaiden" is the best gay movie of all time and is actually one of my favourite movies of all time. Park Chan-wook is a fantastic director and all of his works, ESPECIALLY "The Handmaiden" benefit from repeat watches. Like I've watched "The Handmaiden" four (?) times at this point and I never fail to notice new details each time.

For a more lighthearted movie, I second "Saving Face" because it was extremely relatable to me as an Asian-American.
