US politics, to me, seems like a case of ethnic divide et impera in which the powerful of all races keep the populace divided along ethnic lines to keep it from going against the 1% as a unified front, but since I don't live there I might be very wrong. This applies to my country, too: even though we've never had big, visible minorities until the 1990s, the ones who voted for the racist, populist Lega/M5S combo are your typical aunts and uncles who never quite finished high school and believe in everything they find on Facebook, up to and including Alex Jones-tier conspiracies. Even though the migrant crisis is being handled like shit over here, and I can't blame those who feel like it's going out of control, I can't help but wonder if it's being handled like this on purpose, to give the people someone to look down on while their country goes down the drain.
