So I tried watching Boys Over Flowers...

I was never gonna watch it but a friend forced it on me. I'm at episode 5 and I'm done. Based on how much love it gets I feel like one of the few who's completely turned off by it. Those guys are bullies, not the push you around and take your lunch money variety, but the sick variety with no conscience whatsoever. It's way pass the standard rich asshole cliche that Kdramas tend to have. A guy freaking tried to kill himself in the first episode because of their targeting. I don't know......I can't get pass the shit they've pulled and care about who she's gonna end up with. They're horrible people, all 4 of them, from Ju Pyo their unofficial leader to the other 3 who just stand by and laugh or look away.

I applaud you for the guts on trying to watch it. I could never and won't ever. Lord forbid!!

Honestly I was never gonna watch it cause I heard some bad stuff but it was an empty day at work with nothing to do and my friend had her tablet and recommended it. What a waste tbh

HYD is a manga that should've been left in the 90s. The male lead legit tries to rape the female lead (2 times - first by himself and the 2nd time he sends people after her) and people still try to romanticize it.

and no, the Japanese version was not better. dude is still abusive and creepy in that version. there will never be an adaptation where he's not an asshole because that's what he's like in the source material.

I don't think Boys Over Flowers is actually loved because of a fantastic plot or stellar characters. I feel like it's just enjoyed for being a drama that's ridiculously bad. It's not supposed to be taken seriously or deeply analysed. Or at least that's how I feel about it anyway. I just think of it fondly as one of the first kdramas I've watched back in the day as opposed to it being an actually amazing drama if that makes sense.

Meteor Garden 2018 on Netflix >>>>>> BoF, but yea Hana Yori Dango/Meteor Garden/Boys over Flowers has been problematic since 1992, that doesn't stop all of Asia from loving it and it will probably still be remade 100 years from now.

I watched Hana Yori Dango 10 years ago and thought it was great...but that's considering that I was a young teen back then. Perhaps now my vision would be different now, because there IS a lot of problematic shit in that drama

Still, Matsumoto Jun carries the whole show, so japanese version >> korean version
