Before Western Validation Was a Thing...

It only recently became a huge issue though in kpop lol

That term became huge because it was used as an insult that heavily implied fans were seeking some kind of approval from the west. Actual stateside promo and attempts at the market aren't very new.

That being said I didn't know about this interview!

As a Kpop fan for over 9 years I am aware. I used western validation in the title as satire.

See above. It has only recently become *this* big of an issue because BTS have actually crossed over.

Been listening to kpop for over a decade. Can confirm

oh my god.

No.

No one is denying the fact that it's not new. But it's such a meme now (in part due to how much more prevalent of an issue it is, compared to before), which is why my title was labeled as how it is. My title was meant to poke fun at those who use "western validation" in a demeaning way. As far as I'm aware, it has not been used as a demeaning term as much before than it is now. BTS have just capitalized on a bridge that's been building itself for a while now, which also helped them propel themselves much further than anyone before them has ever been. The issue (demeaning term) is much bigger now than it was before due in part to the fact that BTS have crossed over successfully while other before them have not (to this extent, at least)... You can disagree with the latter, that is a debate for another day. But let me live with how I choose to phrase my titles playing off a meme-y term, lol

I don't think that warrants any disgruntled replies.
