I don't have a separate device for ebooks so unfortunately I can't help you there but if you have an iPhone or iPad then I recommend the iBooks app! It's a free Apple app, and they have a lot of free books, works just like an ereader I think~

To add to this there's also other apps where you can borrow e/audio books and even videos on any device, it's all free you just need to have a card with your local library

also I have a Kindle Fire and it works well for me ! :)

Any specific questions?

I LOVE E-readers. I have a Kobo Aura 2 and I love it. I used to read on my iPad before I bought an ereader. I will never go back reading on an iPad.

The main reasons why I prefer an E-reader (over tablet) and Kobo (over Kindle):

1. Convenience - Super light, long battery life (weeks), easy on the eyes (frontlight is better than backlight), text looks like reading on paper

2. I feel more compelled to actually read.

3. I prefer Kobo because it's more open-ended. With Kobo you can buy/borrow books from any online bookstores/libraries that uses Adobe Digital Edition (most do). With Kindle you are locked to Amazon. Kobo supports more filetypes, especially .epub filetype (the most common filetype). Kindle/Amazon has its own filetype.

It's like comparing iPhone to Android. With iPhone you are locked to Apple. With Android you have more options.

If you do buy a Kobo, I'd recommend their newest Kobo Clara HD (released very recently). Its basically a better version of Kobo Aura 2 - it has better resolution and comfortlight - but same price. Kobo also has ereaders with larger screens if you prefer that.

My biggest beef with Kindle is that it is locked to Amazon. I sometimes want to read books in other languages than English, and Amazon has a very limited collection of books in my language. I also cant borrow books from my local library with a Kindle. If you dont mind Amazon, then Kindle Paperwhite is great as well.

Thanks! i knew about overdrive (my local library uses that) but ibooks is new to me (tbh the main issue with reading books on my phone or tablet is that i tend to get distracted with others things  imstupid.png  )

A lot of that is similar to what i read and i was initially leaning towards getting a kobo aura but then i saw several replies in a reddit thread saying that their kobos died after a year or so/didnt last long and needed to be replaced. I had a basic kindle (w/o the back/frontlight) and while i didnt like how it was bound to only amazon, it did last me a good 6 years. How long has your kobo been working for?

I've only had my Kobo for a year and I havent had any problems with it. I also havent heard about Kobo devices breaking after 1 year. If this was something very common, then I should have seen articles about it, but I havent. I think the reddit users were just unlucky. It always happens with electronics. Kobo wouldnt be the second biggest company in the e-reading market if their products breaks easily. I have friends who owns Kobo devices for years without any issues.

I also had the basic Kindle 5 years ago but gave it to my dad because I didnt like being bound to Amazon and the fact that i got a tablet.

At the end of the day, it depends on how comfortable you are with being bound to Amazon. You cant go wrong with either Kindle PW or Kobo.
