How much experience do I need to join this game?

We highly recommend that you have familiarity with an editing program. You don't need to be a long-term, experienced graphics maker, this game is more for fun. You'll be judged more on your creativity and if your submission follows the round. Technical skills will still be judged on but it won't have a terrible impact on your score (unless your submission is really that bad).

What if I don't have an editing program?

Well then, google one. There are many FREE programs you can use if you don't have Photoshop. You don't have to be exclusive to one program, we don't care what you use, as long as you submit your work by the round's deadline.

I want Photoshop. Do you guys have a link to download it for free?

Yeah, we know where you can get yourselves hooked up. No, we will not link you to a torrent/crack. If you want it, go find it. However, if you are okay with using a free trial instead, there is a post here explaining this method. You can download Photoshop CS2 for free here. Technically, PS CS2 is for those who have already bought it, but can't activate their serial numbers or whatever. I mean, they basically provide a serial number in the downloads. Literally anyone can download. Adobe is kind of dumb.

Will I need to make gifs?

No! And if you do know how, then good for you! You will not be required to use gifs in your creations. If you want to use gifs, go ahead.

Can I use textures/psds/templates I found online?

Yeah sure, as long as you don't claim you created it (unless you did, but even then, how will we know you are telling the truth?!)

Will you guys give me tutorials on how to do things?

Probably not. You guys should know your way around the internet by now. Go find something! However, we will provide examples if people are confused about what the round is asking for.

Can you just give me the prize?

Hell no.

Illustrator is pretty good, you can use it (the OP was made with help with it hehe) but having a photo editor along with it is what you want.

You can google "photoshop alternatives" and you'll get articles with links to programs that are free and work like PS

I used gimp for a while but yeah, other than resizing sigs and dps gimp wasn't really useful for me. I use illustrator sometimes (I mainly use cc) either should be fine ^^

Omg thank you;; Mainly just tutorials and asking in the grx design thread. Also a lot can be learned from just playing around and experimenting with different tools. Creativity + patience is key ^^

I just remembered a "hack" on how to get it long enough, at least for this game. The game will take a week and a half.

 

1. Go on the Adobe website and create an account. I recommend using a throwaway email because you will need to make 2 accounts.

2. After that's all done and you verified your email, you go to the "Creativity and Design" tab and click on Photoshop under "Featured products"

3. From there, you can download a 7-day trial. It includes everything the paid version has.

4. Download it. You can also go here to download the application directly. This link gives you the official download from the Adobe site, so it'll still be the 7-day trial. But just in case you are having problems on the Adobe site, download from this website instead.

5. PS will download and after it's finished, voila! You have it installed.

6. Now, it's only a 7-day trial. After the trial is over, this is where your other account comes in! Log out from the first account and uninstall Photoshop completely. If you got that Creative Cloud app installed, delete that too. Then, log in with the second email you made and you can re-download the PS trial. Again, this will be a 7-day trial, but you will have used PS for a total of 14 days. That is enough days in order to complete this game. This has worked for a lot of people, but there are others who have said Adobe installs a hidden file on your computer so that you can't re-install the trial. I think that's only if you still use the same account or didn't uninstall PS well. Try this method and see if it works. There is this other method I know of that is pretty easy, it requires using the Notepad in order to change some numbers. Idk if you use a Mac or Windows, I only know this on Windows.

Also, Photoshop CS2 is free to download here

It works just like the newest version but it's missing features such as that quick selection tool to make masks and the content-aware tool and the UI looks old af. If you have a Mac this won't work unless for some reason in 2018 you are running on OS X v.10.2.8–v.10.3.8 imstupid.png
