Sam Smith made his name singing smooth, gliding dance-pop songs, but the British soul singer seems to be changing course before his debut album In The Lonely Hour is even out, moving into slick but emotive blue-eyed soul territory. His new single “Leave Your Lover,†like “Stay With Me†before it, is a soft-focus piano-soul ballad. Smith spends the video carousing through London with a pair of friends, and there’s clearly some sort of love-triangle dynamic going on, but it takes a while to figure out who’s into whom. I've heard some of his songs and they're...okay nothing really noteworthy at least in my opinion. He along with Frank Ocean have started this trend of "sensitive" and "thoughtful" men who are struggling with their sexuality and it's kind of nauseating because it's not genuine at all. It feels like it's very media constructed so that the public can say, "Awwwwww". And I don't understand Frank Ocean coming out, almost immediately he did a song paired with a video of women in a strip club they're all trying to appease and appeal to a wider audience so they can seem "normal" and show the public "that we're just as normal as all of you even if we're attracted to the same sex".
