First of all, I don't get why these 2 places are compared to each other because each offer different stuff.

If you want anime, mangas, collectibles, costumes and stuff, it's better to go Nakano Broadway especially if you're an old school manga/anime fan. It's cheaper and there's alot of stuff. You can get bargain prices for some of the anime action figures. There's alot of gatchapon machines as well. All under one roof. It's basically mall haven for otakus.

The only thing I recommend in Akihabara are the duty free stores if you want to look for electronics and newest gadgets (which are still expensive imo), otherwise, everything else is expensive. The anime stuff sold there are expensive. But it's cool to see the buildings around Akihabara, there's animes billboards and posters. There's also game arcades. But if you're an AKB48 fan, I suggest you come to Akihabara to their cafe which is next to Akihabara station. There's also AKB48 theatre but I've never been there. If you're a fan of Love Live and idolmaster, you can check out their newest stuff there.

Hongdae is a cooler version of MyeongDong with less tourists and alot cheaper stuff - clothes, fashion, accessories. It's within university area, so, there's alot of young people and there's some street performances. A pretty hip area.

Hongdae is like MyeongDong, so a better comparison in Japan is Takeshita-Dori or Shibuya.

I'm not sure about Korea's version of Akihabara tho.

Both for different reasons.

Akihabara to fulfill my childhood otaku dreams. Lots of anime related shops there. Literally an otaku mecca. Also to visit the AKB48 theater (because PD48 introduced me to 48g and got me hooked to them and also emotionally attached). Adding Don Quijote to the list because I wanna shop there especially the makeups they sell (which I saw on Pony's channel).

Hongdae for days I just want to chill and relax especially with friends.
