[Discussion] Am I the only one who feels like Hyolyn can succeed with her current style?

Let's discuss this. I've read so many comments and articles mocking her for flopping on the charts and releasing mediocre music but this is complete bs. Ok I agree Paradise was a mess but let's pretend it doesn't exist.

I've listened to her latest single SEE SEA and oh boy when I tell you my jaw freaking dropped!!!

The song is a BOP omg. Literally the best summer song I've heard this year. And let's remember Dally was also a bop so she's been consistently releasing great songs (also Blue Moon last year).

Concerning her career, I think she can definitely blow up with this kind of music in Korea. Yes it's not the type the gp expects from her (they liked her in Sistar and her OSTs did really well too) but this upbeat music suits her so much. She just needs to push through and one way or another the public will accept it. Hyuna used to get so many hateful comments but that never stopped her from getting hits (Change, Bubble pop, Red etc.). I feel like Hyolyn can do it too cuz there is definitely an audience for sexy bops in Korea. If this wasn't the case, Hyuna and Sunmi wouldn't be successful.

Also the cute market is oversaturated at this point. Sexy female idols need to rise and prosper and to me Hyolyn is the answer to that rn. Her current music, stage presence and sex appeal...everything is on point and if she can just get that one dance hit, it would give her solo career a big boost. She's already got high public recognition and is acknowledged as one of the most talented female idol. She just needs to keep pushing and promoting and she may get that one song that will snatch Korea and make the gp trust her more as a soloist. Thoughts?

People are really saying she's releasing mediocre music? lmao Hyolyn single handedly saved 2018, just because it's not something they're used to in kpop doesn't mean it's bad.

She really did save 2018, her music has been A+ honestly

She's so talented. Maybe she can mix up the slow and fast songs? A good variety of songs can give her a leverage.

Like release a slow pre-release and then a bop as main title track? That aint a bad idea but I feel like only a few artists can afford this tho. Pre-releases often kill the hype of the title track. And if she switches things up too often she might confuse the public too so she needs to blow up with her current music first before she releases a variety of songs imo (especially if that's the music path she chose for her career).

She has one of my favorite voices in kpop, like really, for me it’s so unique that when I heard it for real for the first time I had to listen to her whole discography. I think it’s really hard for any artist to break out like that, even more if then don’t have a big fanbase/support necessary for the exposure, people should give her time and her team should persist in collabs with big artists maybe OSTs and such

Queen has literally released 3 different songs with different genres and people still calling ha shit mediocre. Tsk.

I absolutely think she can and will succeed. I'm glad she's sticking to what she WANTS to do.

Also anticipate BAE, we don't know when it's dropping but when it does, issa bop. :)

Yes it will take time. Not everyone can hit big right away especially since it's quite different from what she released in the past as a soloist. It will take time for the public to get used to it so she needs to persevere and I agree collabs might help her music get more exposure. Since she had Gray, maybe she should work with Loco next? He's really hot rn.

I think if she doesn't buckle under the pressure to re-confirm her style to what the gp expects out of her, and continues on this path, she'll be on top when the trends turn back to sexy.  KPOP market goes through trends all the time.  It used to be sexy until everyone was trying to be a sexy group.  GP lost interest in the concept so the trend turned to cutesy, then lively, then to girl crush etc.  It'll be back to the sexy concept soon.  All she has to do is keep releasing good music and working hard like she's already doing.  It'll be her time again.  I also feel like Hyolyn has accomplished a lot with SISTAR.  She knows what it takes to be back at the top.  But she'd rather do what she wants to do.  And I admire her for that.

Everything she's released this year is 10/10. See Sea is nothing short of amazing. Literally the most snatched and talented female idol of all time + quality to boot

I know she's not doing amazingly well but See Sea has been charting on the downloads charts for a few weeks and when she went to Uni festivals everyone was singing along to Dally :lub:

Anywho, I think it's amazing that she's been in the game for so long yet she's still so passionate about music and trying new things and performing everywhere. It's rare tbh. I think if she keeps doing what she's doing, it'll eventually catch on.

Her solo discography is 100/100

Starting with love&hate following with her collaborations Umbrella, love like this, one step (i pretend paradise never existed)

Her 3 Set up time, TDL,Dally,Seasee, her ost (our tears my fav)

I think she's going the right path she is the most talented female idol and she's genuinely dgaf about trends and knets opinions, she work so hard, doing the job all by herself (name a female idol who can easily build an entertainment company from scratch) she trend every time she's on TV and she's doing tons of festivals.

Is a slow and hard road but she definitely going to succeed

This. People like her but I worry that the ones who are listening to her music right now will only care about her if she keeps releasing MV's in bathing suits. Like if she releases a ballad right now, realistically, how many people who tuned into Dally and See Sea will tune into that, then listen to her next track. Dally blew up a lot because of her sexy dancing (tons of people were reacting to it and sharing it for that, rather than the actual song) but thank goodness people liked the song too. But not as many have tuned into See Sea already. Still a lot, but not as many. She either has to do something more drastic and sexy along with a bop to retain the Dally fans, or grab more people who love her for her voice and presence. Or maybe switching it up will just weed out the hype train followers and get her a nice steady fanbase she can rely on for the rest of her career.
