Should BTS serve in the Korean Army | ASIAN BOSS

AUSTIN POST

Regardless there needs to be a clearer standard.

Yeah, I watched the video and some of the reactions were literally, “To be expemt, you need to be representing the countryâ€, and that’s exactly what they’re doing, and they agreed too! It’s so confusing lmao

I don't get why or how BTS should get exempt just because they made it big in the US? Japan's the 2nd biggest music market after the US yet no male idol group that made it big in Japan like TVXQ get exempted from the Korean army. Why should being able to make it in the American music industry be the end all or give them the privilege of being exempt? It's really hypocritical. At least make things fair for everyone else.

I think they should be exempt from the army because the impact they are having over the world is too huge.

no they shouldn’t be exempt, some athletes get an exemption when they win a medal for their country. No artist got exempted from the military so BTS also needs to serve like every other eligible man

Yeah, everyone knows that. That's why there is a discussion regarding artists expemption from military. The first time Korea is being represented on a worldwide scale in such a big way. Maybe not complete exemption, but atleast an extra delay in enlistment should be granted to BTS members so they can fulfill their full potential on international platforms. It would be a huge loss to Korea if they had to enlist during the peak of their career when they would have had the chance to win or be nominated for a Grammy, or become a fairly established artist in the US market (and therefore, the entire world).

Pfft, I have to laugh at your pettiness. Considering all the unbelievable stuff BTS have managed to achieve by now, a Grammy isn't so farfetched anymore.

yeah they have achieved a lot but you sound like everyone knows BTS. The vast majority still doesn’t know them and what Grammy, they’re not Beyoncé or anything

If BIGBANG serves of course so is everyone else.

And now most will not be able to delay as long as BIGBANG did due to new amendments to the laws last year.

BtoB Eukwang might have been subject to this since his enlistment was abrupt and he had schedules that had to be cancelled.

Korea's Military Manpower Association (MMA) has introduced a new amendment to the Military Service Act that will make it impossible for male celebrities to delay enlisting for military service.

The new amendment states that the MMA will now be directly managing the enlistment of celebrities. Those professions effected by this new amendment includes singers, actors, comedians, dancers, DJ’s, models, other broadcast personalities, and contracted trainees within entertainment agencies and athletics.

Now all male celebrities who fall into one of these categories -- born between January 1, 1980 and December 31, 1999 -- are required to submit their personal information to the MMA.

Entertainment agencies were notified of the new amendment so that they can prepare for the changes to come. Once the MMA calls for a celebrity’s enlistment, they must report by the assigned date and will no longer be allowed to delay their conscription.

i like how it was fairly varied responses

what surprised me most was the men being more open to the exemption than the women

Why is this so big, I thought it was common sense that all the fans agreed that they should serve??? And on top of that, I highly doubt that the members themselves wouldn't want to serve

I wish they never used BTS as an example in something like this in the first place unsure.png
