Why does nobody get mad at companies when it comes to dating scandals?

I'm seriously confused here. If these idols are being marketed as pure, single, boyfriend/girlfriend material by their own company, why are some of these fans called delusional when they were buying into exactly what was marketed to them. Boyfriend/girlfriend material.

Am I missing something? I just find it weird when I see people getting mad at fans for getting invested in exactly what they expected.

Thank you for attending this Ted Talk.

It's not black and white. Companies market things that way, that's on them. But the fans are human beings who should have enough critical thinking to realize they're never going to be any idol's boyfriend/girlfriend. Takes two hands to clap.

Fans are still delusional for thinking that they're idols are potential dates

You not wrong sis! I'm just curious though why companies don't get the extra "wtf why you tellin these weirdos that your employees are potential boyfriend/girlfriends"

I don't understand how some OH people think K-fans will forever think their idols will stay single forever for them. You see BIGBANG? Did their fans react negatively when Taeyang married? Or to any members dating rumors now? Eventually, fans will react positively to their idols dating. You just need to know when is the time to make it public or how to public it. Sungmin got fans mad NOT because of his marriage, but because HIS WIFE's behaviour towards his fans

I think it's the misplaced rage at the idol that confuses most people. Like, if a laundry detergent doesn't remove a stain from your shirt, you don't get mad at the spokesperson who sold it to you, right? You direct your anger at the company that made the product.

Kpop companies need to stop pushing the pure, innocent BF/GF images so hard, and consumers need to keep in mind that it's all marketing.

That's actually another great point that needs to be addressed. When is the right time to make a relationship public? I can also see how on Hyuna's side, her fans reacted positively as she's been in the industry for YEARS without any rumors, and a stable career, whereas edawn technically is a rookie without a long established loyal fanbase.

Sooyoung also makes a good example, even muggles are fond of their relationship

Honestly, in my opinion, no celebrity has to confirm their relationship until they announce engagement/marriage.

GD got hate though but maybe it was bcoz of Kiko

Some idols did get support but you can never tell when and which relationship will be received positively. Shinhwa's Eric got hate even after being in this industry for 20 years, i'm sure he waited more than enough for fans.

a very good point, gaudyyy~

i say the blame is mixed: with the first generation, companies capitalized on fans by pushing a pure image. and then as more groups debuted and companies figured out better tactics, they went further and promoted idols as a bf/gf. thus, this toxic possessive kpop idol culture is created and continued on.

kfans tend to be in their teens, which is a sensitive and vulnerable time in your life (growing up, changing mentally and physically) plus add in strict academics (good student: priority of studying over most other things but needs a distraction sometimes or struggling student: needing motivation, rebelling a bit). you can become attached to this fantasy bf/gf~ in turn, fans will be more compelled to spend money. and likewise, for fans in their 20s-30s who aren't accomplishing things in life, the emotional attachment fulfills something in their life.

additionally, this is the result of when companies+fans value certain aspects over other aspects (music). ohpressor.png

pure and innocent? Hmm  do fans not listen to all the sexual innuendos in most kpop songs? Or are you choosing you don't get it?

Since when does being boyfriend or girlfriend material mean that person should not ever have an actual bf or gf?

Do you also feel this sense of ownership over the actors you watch in movies and tv shows?

Do you honestly thinking having a crush on an idol and that idol giving you an extra smile or wink or comment as fan service means they should then never date and have a real life off-stage?

The real question is why some of you fans so self absorbed and unrealistically selfish.

A lot of fans also play along and say things like they'll dedicate their lives to these idols or die for them or they call them their husbands or wives, yet in real life, they are dating (or hoping to) and are living their lives outside of stanning.

I agree, even more when the idols themselves feed this fantasy, like they don't need to lie, just keep it to yourself and appreciate your fans and go, but some of them do the extra mile like lying about unecessary shit, so I don't feel bad to these idols that much
