According to the business reports sent to the Financial Supervisory Service from the big three entertainment companies of K-Pop, SM, YG, and JYP Entertainment, SM Entertainment came out on top with the most revenue last year.

Last year, SM Entertainment made 270 billion won (~ $260 million USD), which is almost twice the revenue compared to two years prior in 2011, 140 billion won (~ $140 million USD). Meanwhile, YG made 120 billion won (~ $110 million USD), which is a 49% increase from 2011 when they posted revenue of 78 billion won (~ $76 million USD).

JYP Entertainment came in last with 21 billion won (~ $21 million USD).  One entertainment rep said, "These companies are establishing affiliates and more, all of which are great factors to their business, so it looks like the profit scale will continue to grow in the future."

These three companies are influential to the point that some people say the whole broadcasting production process in itself would be difficult if there were no celebrities signed under one of three companies in the broadcasting world.

Last year only GD, seungri, make major comeback and Lee Hi with a debut , 2ne1,taeyang,top and psy only have singles, so what YG make is pretty amazing.
I think if he did releases all he planned this year (EH,PSY,BIGBANG,Winner,New GG, Team B and Lee Hi(?)) , YG will easily twice this number.

Why JYP revenue so low? I expect around 50-60 mil

Miss A don't sell well.  Suzy can only bring in so much.  2PM's Korean album didn't sell as well as they are used to, but their Japanese stuff did fairly well.  Other than that they didn't really have much.

Ehhh... music comeback plays a VERY little role in the overall revenue for a company.

Photoshoots, endorsements, TV appearances, concerts and such plays a MUCH larger role than music comebacks.

For anyone who finds this very confusing considering there was a similar report 1.5 months ago...

This is what I wrote then about that article:

The "journalist" writing this article is an incompetent idiot.

First off, SM vs YG: The figures used are only for the parents companies, not the consolidated figures for the entire companies. When looking at the real figures (including for example SM Japan and Dream Maker Entertainment etc) the difference becomes MUCH bigger:

Only parent company (as used by this journalist):
SM: 164 billion won revenue 2013
YG: 106 billion won revenue 2013

The real figures for the entire consolidated companies:
SM: 269 billion won revenue 2013
YG: 116 billion won revenue 2013

That is how much bigger SM actually is compared to YG.

As for JYP:
The old figure for 2010 10.2 is only for one of the 2 JYP companies. 2PM isn't included in that at all, they were in the other JYP company.
The new figure of 17.8 for 2013 seems to be a messy number. It's difficult for me to properly understand what's written in their Korean financial report, but this figure seems to partly include some of the revenue from the second JYP company.
The 2 JYP companies were merged into one in October 2013, and I don't fully understand what the 17.8 figure is supposed to be.
The total revenue for the entire JYP group (both 2 companies combined) should be around 40 billion won off the top of my head.

This new article is "correct" on SM and YG, but the figure for JYP is still messed up because the 21 billion mention in this article is not for the entire JYP company.

JYP pays for his taxes.

I don't think you understand how dumb your comment is.

Companies pay tax on their profits.

SM paid about $19 million USD in taxes in 2012 and another $23 million USD in taxes in 2013.

JYP barely paid any taxes all since they barely made any profits.

JYP needs to release more hit songs, this is why their revenue is so low, the only reason they are still in the top 3 is because of how well known they are, there are companies which are becoming more successful than JYP
