'Homeless' Man Versus Businessman Experiment Proves Judgmental Side of Human Nature

A video titled "The Importance of Appearances," by YouTube user norniTube, proves that we all may be too quick to judge a book by its cover.

In a heartbreaking social experiment, a man dressed as a homeless person falls down in a busy street in Paris, France. Dozens of people pass by him, no one offering a hand. Then, a person dressed in a suit falls in the exact same location, appearing to be sick, and everyone jumps to his aid.

The video claims the "homeless" man was lying on the street for more than five minutes without anyone offering help. Some of the passers-by stop to take a second look, but still do nothing.

On the other hand, the man in a suit doesn't even need to cry for help before several people hurry to his side.

While the "experiment" can't be 100% validated, it still shows an interesting, and unpleasant, side of human nature.

The video also highlights an incident from 2008, when a woman collapsed in a waiting room of aNew York City hospital, and the staff ignored her for 45 minutes.

At one point in the video, a caption simply asks: "What if it was you?" A chilling thought considering any one of us could one day be on the wrong end of a snap judgement.

That's cruel........ We shouldn't judge just because of someone's appearance or status..... I'm in a wheelchair and if I feel like I'm being "discriminated" against I have absolutely NO PROBLEM saying something...... Its not right to people like me and others with similar circumstances.......

Well .. If id see a homeless man on the streets id think hes either sleeping or is drunk but ...without trying to be mean he kinda "belongs" there while a business man lying on the streets is a rare sight which means he might need some help

SMH

i would help any person who fell up.

once my sis was in a subway station and she met a sad young homeless young lady with a toddler.

she  got her food and asked what was her story. turns out the woman got raped and pregnant and her family kicked her out, she had been homeless ever since.

my sis gave her some money and put her in a homeless shelter.

I find it sad when people refuse to give homeless ppl money because they think they will spend it on drugs/cigarettes/liquor, like you don't even know that persons story.

This experiment wasnt executed fairly, as least what they showed wasnt fair. First, they showd a homless man falling and laying on the ground for 5 minutes, but only a handful of people saw and heard him cough and fall. Then they get the businessman and he coughs, imo louder than the 'homeless' actor, and theres a significant more amount of people in his vicinity to hear and see him collapse, compared to the first test. I want to see the 'businessman' actor lie on the ground for 5 minutes. But I feel the results would be the same, but thats the world we live in.

I was about to say something like this

For example here in my city is really common to see drunk men sleeping on the streets. Most of them are just borrachos. If a homeless man would call for help I'd try to understand what is he saying but if he's just staying there then nope.

It is really common here, some weeks ago I was running and saw a man puking.
