Raising "theybies": These two parents are raising their 3-year-old twins using the pronoun they, them & their to shield them from gender stereotypes

i mean it's an interesting concept, i'm skeptical of it though because it seems to be kind of counter intuitive, like it places an over-importance on gender roles by making them something to be actively avoided instead of just kind of ignored? if that makes sense.

that being said one of my best friends (and all her siblings) were raised to be effectively gender neutral, although they used she or he pronouns and just didn't raise them to be associated with any particular gender role and they turned out fine. i think in that case they got to define their gender identities for themselves, which i think is a good thing. her little sister ended up being super girly regardless, but it wasn't forced on her so she got to decide what she liked for herself.

You don’t need to use “they them and their†to shield them from gender stereotypes just things like... not assume they’ll like princess toys and generally girly things if you really don’t want to enforce a gender stereotype

Using they them and their to address them individually will confuse them when people who aren’t in the know address them as she/he because they’re like...3 they don’t even understand this shit yet

Why not just raise them normally and if later on one or both decide they want to be the gender they’re not they just accept it rather than really obviously wanting them to grow a certain way

Since when are gender stereotypes evil?

I thought it was supposed to be acceptance for all types of people to express themselves how they like, but now they wanna portray standard and traditional male/female behaviors as sexist/evil and anything 'out of the ordinary' as cool and superior

Western trends with gender have become radical and will continue to be more shocking with each season
