Hello! 

 

So I've been lurking in this thread for a long time. I only just got into BTS last September, fell immediately for RM, and then promptly tried to consume all the fan content I could. The Namjoon community on tumblr is a bit lackluster to say the least, so I managed to stumble onto here. And then possibly read every single page in this thread Â¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 

 

But!! I wanted to introduce myself to this thread I've been stalking before the Newark concert! After which I hope to drop some hot, fresh pics  . The last time I fucks wit any online forums was literally about 10 years ago oml so I'm a bit rusty. (I'm starting with an intro post here as the main thread is a bit bigger and moves a bit faster, so....... eventually.)

 

 

So this ain't a waste of a post I have a question for all y'all:

My roommate and I joke that we have ten thousand nicknames for Namjoon, so I was wondering: What do you usually refer to him by? And do you have any particularly unique names for him?

(I tend to think of him as Juniper in my head a lot lmao)

And answers! lmao Lil Pumpkinhead is probably the most unique name I've heard for him but you know what, fair enough. Other names me and my roommate have referred to him as: Gumby, WIFATM (Wacky Inflatable Flailing Arm Tube Man), and egg man.

 

Juniper sounds so cute. How did you come up with that one? Sounds like jupiter and universe~

 

Hmm? I think I was working on fairy tales at work around the time, so I was thinking about "The Juniper Tree" a lot and associated it over to him and... I've just now realized he'd be Juniper Namu  is that appropriate enough word play ?

Here I am post concert!!!

 

 

Not to be That Stan but he looked in my general direction and my heart stopped.  

 

I did not realize beforehand what a blessing it was to be on the left side: that's the side he's always on in formations. And honestly I was doing my best to take in every little bit of BTS I could, but I couldn't helped but be glued to Joon. Even while someone else was center stage he was always doing something dumb off to the side that caught my eye.

 

His speaking voice!! Was incredible, like, so commanding and present and he just sounds cool. I loved his little ment saying music transcends everything: language, country, race. Joon created equality when will ur fav etc etc.

 

Other things: he was always glowing golden, everyone did the "We love you" chant and I nearly cried, and he is so good at hyping everyone up and making it seem like he's looking at every single one personally ilovehimalot

@ both PM and pepperonin: I'm so happy for you both! (and a bit jealous...but mostly happy) You both seem to have had a really great time. Pep what was your fave performance? And PM what was the most memorable thing about day 2? Those rainbow oceans were beautiful, what colours were you seated in? Questions, questions 

 

 

Oh my goodness it was such an experience. My fav was definitely Cypher! It was so hype and I adore the little adlibs that they all threw in. Favorite solos were: first love, reflection, and mama (I am such rapline trash I can't help it). First Love was actually the first song that wow-ed me, especially since it's not a song I tend to enjoy listening to on my own in my everyday. But the crescendo and live instruments really make it special.

 

And I was in section seven so I was green!

 

Are you me? This sounds just like my reaction when I first saw them hehehehe

 

I love him so much. Everytime I see him I just love him even more. It's also so easy to spot him on the stage even when you're far away. He's the one running and jumping and dancing like a nerd on the side lol

 

   was 100% embarrassing and I think it was pretty obvious to my neighbors that this was my first, but I was also like fuck and just enjoyed being embarrassing.

 

I imagine there are a million fancams of the songs, but I don't think I've seen this yet: It's jk asking rm to tell the crowd to stop pushing   everything they do is cute to me rn

WHOA, we must have been sitting incredibly close to each other! I was section 7, Row 5 on Thursday. Though, sad story, on BOTH NIGHTS I somehow missed the fan project for colored bags so I had a sad, naked bomb both times: 

 

 

This photo is from the second night, section 21. STILL NO BAG. I was extra sad because there were like 4 people two rows behind me who had no lightsticks and were just holding up the colored bags. They didn't even put a cellphone inside to try and make it happen, weep.

 

I am also envious of how high quality your photos turned out. All of mine ended up with a weird white-washing across their faces, sometimes obscuring their features entirely. As for RM, I found myself watching him in a lot of the dances because he felt so close.

 

Also, these are not good quality, but I took a Reflection fancam:

 

 

!! We were in fact incredibly close! Me and my friend were in section 7, row 5, seats 7 and 8. Aw, wish we could have somehow known cuz my friend was in the same situation: she had a bag and no bomb and didn't want to put it on her phone as she was taking video.

 

And same on the pictures. I only managed to get a couple that weren't completely washed out.

 

 

Bleh I just wanna see their beautiful faces, ah well.

Popping in for a quick second on my work computer (OTL) to drop this really great post since I know we're all thirsty for Korean lyric analysis:

 

 

 

why you should stan namjoon: his ability to manipulate and play around with the korean language

A little while ago, I asked a question about whether Korean music sounds like gibberish to non-Korean speaking listeners. Majority of those who answered said yes and for the most part, many just try to recognize certain phrases or the overall gist of the song when you are listening to it. Now this sort of got to me because as a bts fan, the members play around with words in their songs and they honestly have some of the most poetic/complex lyrics in the industry and it’s really interesting for me, a Korean-American, to be able to hear and distinguish that. But for non-Korean speakers, you guys can’t really do the same. An awesome example of this is Namjoon because well- he is just a genius, a modern-day poet. So, I’m going to try my best to try to point some of the word play in his lyrics out because I think you guys would find it just as interesting as I do!

1)  í¥íƒ„소년단/Fun Boyz

ì € 위 ì •ìƒë“¤ì´ ë³´ì´ì§€

ì¼ìƒì— ìƒì„ 하나 ë”í•´ ë‚œ ì´ìƒí•´ì§€ì§€

ì •ìƒì¸ ìƒíƒœë¡œëŠ” ì •ìƒì— 못 가요 baby

 

trans:  â€œYou see the peak over there, right? Add one more prize to my daily life, I’ll get weird. You can’t reach the top by being normal babyâ€

In this verse, Namjoon uses the word â€œì •ìƒâ€ which can mean two different things depending on whether you use it as an adjective or a noun. As a noun, it means “the peak†(like the highest point of something). But as an adjective, it means “normalâ€. In the first line, he uses it as a noun- asking a question if you can see it. But in the third line, he uses the word in both ways. If I were to translate the last line stiffly it would be something like: â€œin a normal state you can’t reach the peakâ€

In the second line, he also does another word play.  ì¼ìƒ is a noun that means â€œdaily life†while ì´ìƒ is an adjective that means â€œweird†or â€œabnormalâ€. However, he also makes a math pun in the line. The first syllable of  ì¼ìƒ is  ì¼ which is the number 1 and the first syllable of  ì´ìƒ is  ì´ which is the number 2. So literally, if you â€œadd one more†to  ì¼ìƒ you get  ì´ìƒ. Add “one more†to daily life, you get weird.

Also! Note the repetition of the syllable “ìƒâ€ (sahng) through out his verse!

trans:  â€œAs if every autumn leaf has fallen, as if everything that seemed to last forever is falling away, you’re my fifth season. Even if I try to see you, I can’t. Look, you’re still blue to me. Even if our hearts do not walk, they walk instinctively. Our lingering affections, like laundry, hang piece by piece. Only the crimson memories fall above my dirty self. Even if I do not shake my branch, it keeps on falling. Sure, for my love to ascend- it falls. Even if I’m near by, my two eyes grow further- they’re falling away. Like this, I’m being thrown away. I become young again inside my memories.â€

Not only is his entire verse extremely poetic with his usage of analogies and personification and overall language but another thing that you have to make notice of is the fact that he raps in alphabetical order.

From the line 마ìŒì€ 걷지 ì•Šì•„ë„ ì €ì ˆë¡œ 걸어지네 down, the verbs at the end of the lines follow alphabetical order.

The part of the Korean alphabet he uses is (from left to right) ㄱㄴㄷㄹã…ã…‚ã……ã…‡. Order-wise, and not by actual sound, its equivalent to the English alphabet would be abcdefgh.

Now pay attention to the first consonant of the first syllable of the last word of each line.

걸 ì–´ì§€ë„¤ , ë„ ì–´ì§€ë„¤ , ëœ ì–´ì§€ë„¤ , ë–¨ ì–´ì§€ë„¤ ,ë–¨ ì–´ì§€ë„¤ ,ë©€ ì–´ì§€ë„¤ , ë²„ ë ¤ì§€ë„¤ ,ì–´ ë ¤ì§€ë„¤

ㄱ,ã„´,ã„·,ㄸ*,ㄸ,ã…,ã…‚,ã…‡

a,b,c,cc*,cc,e,f,h

*ㄸ is a double consonant, meaning that it’s the stronger sound of ㄷ. In some alphabets, the double consonants come after its single consonant- meaning that Namjoon was still technically following Korean alphabetical order

One more thing to note is his repetition of the verb ending â€œ-네â€. This is typically used when the speaker is just taking notice of something and it implies that they have been taken aback by whatever has happened. For example, if you haven’t seen somebody in a long time, you might say something like â€œYou’ve gotten prettier/more handsomeâ€. In Korean, you would use the verb ending “네†for this situation and say something along the lines of â€œ__ 예ë»ì¡Œë„¤â€ or â€œ__ ë”잘ìƒê²¨ì¡Œë„¤â€

So similarly, in this verse, it’s as if Namjoon is first discovering that hearts will walk instinctively, that his lingering affections hang piece by piece, that his love must fall in order to ascend, that he is becoming young inside his memories, and so on and so forth. It’s slight, but it adds a new level of depth to how you interpret his lyrics.

3) Always

trans: â€œI live to understand the world, but the world has never understood me- why? No, precisely one half is missing. It’s trying to hurt me.â€

In this verse, Namjoon uses the verb ì´í•´ which means â€œto understandâ€. When he says â€œprecisely one half is missingâ€, he literally meant one half of ì´í•´ which is í•´. The verb í•´í•˜ë‹¤ means â€œto hurt/injure†which is why he’s saying that â€œit’s (the world) is trying to hurt me.† The world lacks one half of understanding him, which is why it’s trying to harm him.

Again, another thing I’d like to talk about is how he says ë‚  해하려 하잖아. Typically, the verb ending “하잖아†is used when you want the person/people you’re addressing to take notice of something. So, for example, if you’re craving something when you just ate- typically your friend would say something like â€œbut we just ate!†And if you’re talking in Korean, it would be here that your friend would use the verb ending 하잖아 and use the phrase â€œë°©ê¸ˆ 먹었잖아!†(you just ate!)

By saying ë‚  해하려 하잖아, it’s as if Namjoon is asking us to see that the world is trying to hurt him, it’s as if he’s implying â€œcan’t you see this?†So it adds a whole entire new spectrum of emotion to his lyrics and I just wanted you guys to clearly hear the song the way he wrote it.

btw gajah in malay means elephant, and elephant in korean is ì½”ë¼ë¦¬ (kkokkiri), and if we consider some homophones 길 (kir/gil) means path/way, while ê¸¸ì´ (kiri) means long, and gajah is spelt as ê°€ìž in korean. which means let’s go. i’ll let that sink in a bit

i thought this a brilliant play on words while at the same time the message is clear: do what your heart desires cos life is short, cos your life is yours♡

but did you know that elephants, besides being one of the most peaceful and intelligent animals in the world, are also known for possessing self-awareness and show empathy for dying or dead individuals of their kind? elephants are one of the sweetest animals on earth and the hook really imo conveys a rather subtle message, in addition,

that whatever you want to do, go ahead with it but be kind in however you roll ^^ and take one slow step at time if you must, but make it deadly positive impact, one that ppl will remember and talk about, take an elephant step to get it out of the room, you know? ;)

I am so    over his hair right now but... I do miss more fun colors (RIP my beautiful grape) even tho it's probably better for Joon's hair to take a break every once and while lol.

 

I would actually love LOVE it if he had this current styling with that grayish hair he had for like two days last year. It mighta just been a trick of the light or something, but anyway if this was resurrected would be my dream:
