My fanboy feels are overflowing today. 
 
I've been reflecting about how Suga's been mentioned in k-media as a prominent idol-rapper this year even though all they know from him is probably from BTS alone. I can't wait for him to drop his mixtape; if bighit does for him what they did for rapmon in regards to his solo i know he'll finally get the recognition he deserves, not just from the general public but from the rap community too. Mark my words.
 
Also, has anyone ever read a lyric interpretation for Cypher pt. 3?
 
Especifically this part:

Did you know that half the things you see on TV are Kagemusha?
 
My take is Baby Shaman refers to the idol/rapper dichotomy union. But what about the Kagemusha part? I even watched the movie and looked up the term (tactic to distract the attention of mass-media by using a dummy) but i just don't understand what he means by that and looking at the rest of the lyrics i can't figure out.

I even watched the movie and looked up the term (tactic to distract the attention of mass-media by using a dummy) but i just don't understand what he means by that and looking at the rest of the lyrics i can't figure out.

It was about time he got that recognition. Seeing him mentioned and praised for his LYRICS and skills is nice to hear. Like RM who established a place within the RAP community, I can definitely see his MIXTAPE helping him to gain the spotlight he has deserved. He just needs to drop it....

 

That dedication...How was the movie? I've read some of the interpretations before and this is what I make out if it. The Japanese word, Kagemusha, literally meaning "Shadow Warrior", is a term used to denote political decoy, like how in the past, someone impersonated a dying military commander, in order to prevent the enemy from attacking the open clan. The double of a general to confuse the opposing team. In Yoongi's time, he means that whatever is shown on the media and TV is a trick and how it's distracting attention from a political issue. Trying to distract the public by using other news to cover up. A common tactic used but I don't really understand why he brought it up.

That translation of the lyric, coupled with your intepretation of the term Kagemusha as a way to imply his idol status is a decoy figure to lure more people into hip hop makes a lot of sense to me. Suga himself has said before he wants to be "the bridge between underground and major", so he's probably talking about that. Thanks!

 

 

And the movie... not a big fan. It was 3 hrs long and i never quite understood the main character's stance on his role as kagemusha or the whole war for that matter. But then again i'm very picky when it comes to movies so i guess you should watch it anyway if you're interested in it.
