Do you think Lovelyz lacks some bops to make them more popular?

I love Lovelyz to death, but when looking back at their music library, especially title songs, I [personally] think they kinda lack something, maybe a true bop that makes them fly higher. Look at Gfriend and Oh My Girl. Gfriend is already much more popular than Lovelyz, even though they are on the same level when it comes to beauty and talents. Oh My Girl might have smaller fandom than both but they are getting bigger. Call me dumb but every time I look at Lovelyz's Youtube views, I feel sad for them :( Ah Choo and Destiny were great, but for some reason I feel they lacked something that Rough and Closer had...

Not a war post by any means. Just wanna tell you guys what I thought.....

I think Lovelyz has a good standard of quality for all of their songs but their title tracks lack a distinct catchiness to them you know? Gfriends song have a distinct melody progression to them and like Twice's title songs are always filled with catchy hooks that make you sing the song out of nowhere. With lovelyz the song production is great but its really soft and kind of makes for better background listening atm.

I'd love to see Lovelyz prosper because they are all so gorgeous and I think if their songs would be just a tiny bit catchier they could really take off. WoW! is my favorite title track atm.

I don't think Ah choo/Destiny and Closer is a good comparison considering both comebacks were more successful than Closer.

To answer the topic, I think Lovelyz are given very "safe" material to work with and don't deviate too far from that understated, if pleasant, tone in their work. They are doing a lot better than plenty of groups though. There are plenty of unpopular groups that release bops so the recipe for success doesn't just lie in actual songs.

I'm not sure what it is exactly to explain their level of popularity but I really like a lot of their music. Their music is nice and sweet and just really pleasant to listen to. Idk why That Day wasn't a lot bigger. I thought it was going to be a hit tbh.

Their music is too complex, not your average hook song that everyone can enjoy

In what way do you think their music is too complex? because in my opinion it's not. It's just different in style than other groups'.

Haha that's exactly what I was trying to say. Couldn't say that better myself.

I know what you mean.   I can put on headphones and listen to a Lovelyz song such as "Doll" for hours on end because there are so many little interesting things going on in the song.

The problem is that many (most?) Lovelyz songs don't have the big hooks that grab one's attention the first time they're played.  One needs to put in the time for repeated listenings.  On the other hand, the title tracks from Twice and Gfriend are usually noticeable the first time they're played.

Good point. Now that you mentioned it I also think the same. I'm no expert but feel like Lovelyz's music (especially intrumentals) sounds kinda complex compared to others. I might make a topic asking folks to see what they think.

Lovelyz have a stable fandom, but they lost some public recognition. They also have a really weak international fandom compared to most other ggs. Their music is really unique, but I admit that some of their songs lack something.

They were one of the biggest rookies in 2014/2015 and let’s not forget tgeir biggest hit Ah-Choo which is known by basically everyone in SK. Destiny was also hyped, but unfortunately, Cheer Up happened. They didn’t have any other comeback in 2016, but their first 2017 comeback was anticipated a lot. Woollim promoted them quite well during WoW, but the problem was the song itself. WoW was such a downgrade from Lovelyz music. The other songs were well received, but weren’t promoted well. That Day had really positive reputation, but the competitors were stronger.

WoW is one of their worst title songs tbh. Imo the album itself is a masterpiece. If only they chose one of the B-side to be title track.
