so the translator says that this... word is a 'cute phrase'...

but aren't these terms all derogatory?

and in this article about wiz khalifa koreans seem to be throwing this word around with no positive connotation - nb even specifies that this is a derogatory term for black people.

so what is the truth?

I guess "but namjoon" has evolved into "but jimin"

The level of obsession is real though, I guess every scandal has to be somehow tied back to BTS. Anyways, even though I personally don't understand the connotation of the word I'm sure Jimin has grown a lot in terms of acceptance since 2014.

aww man i hate when people drag up things from the past about any idols. not in any way defending or condemning what he said because I'm not korean so i do not know the connotations of the word, but if you have to drag up old stuff to bash a group just don't.

The video is from 2015.... I hope he has learnt his lesson since then.

But I’m so disappointed and I’m not going to defend Jimin, he fucked up.

But Exols shouldnt be talking, they are proud of their idols’ racist actions.

why are you trying to bring exo-ls into this? i'm pretty sure i didn't mention exo in the op, nor am i an exo-l myself...

Not gonna defend him for what he said. He was ignorant as fuck and I hope someone at BigHit or someone from his circle would call him out on it. Because it's such an old video, I doubt BigHit would do anything about it now. I just hope Jimin never uses that word again. You know what? I actually wish idols would stop making any statements about their skin tone if they're going to comment on how "tan" they are. It just never ends well.

Although the #JiminCancelledParty hashtag used by some of these fandoms is very opportunistic, I must say. If you're really woke, how about using a #JiminPleaseLearn or #JiminEducateYourself hashtag instead?

But she didn't post any tweets or mention a hashtag in her original post

Now, people have to be educated about not using racial slurs.

I've read the entire thread on twitter and basically what his stans are trying to argue is that he's using it "affectionately".. which is not an excuse at all? it's a word that is used derogatorily towards black people. there are idiots out there who also try to use the n word affectionately to address a friend but that doesn't make it right.

I don't think he deserves to be witch hunted for this but all the defending and twisting the word's meaning is really gross.
