Disclaimer: Not bashing Kris!

So maybe you saw this opinion earlier regarding the issue http://onehallyu.com/index.php?/topic/69966-not-just-kris-vs-sm-but-sina-weibotudouyouku-vs-baidusm/

that is only an opinion of a sophisticated fan who tries to look deeper in to the things.

Another opinion/research done by k-fan, who claims to be SM's shareholder (please note, that being SM Ent's shareholder doesn't mean they get to participate in company management directly, but some of them are pretty invested into the business to know what's going on)

It's a rough translation from these 3 sources:

Naver

Bestiz

DCinside

The person who posted that thing is a stockholder of sm who's been investing for? to? (Idk which conjunction to use) SM for 5 yearrs. He likes SM artists esp. EXO, so he's been keeping up w/ their stuff consistently and thus feels sad about the current case. So he did some research and here are his inferences (summarized):

He thinks Baidu and Sina belong in the top 4 Chinese IT companies and that this case has to do w/ competition among those 4.

In chinese ent. industry, foreign companies can't handle stuff directly; they have to join forces w/ Chinese companies to do business in china. The big fad of the drama "You Who Came from the Star" in China has made it seem like the one who gets Korean contents first becomes the winner of the competition. As you know, Baidu & SM joined forces recently, signing an MoU, whereas Sina now has to pay a huge fine to the government for having too much pornographic contents. They now have to deal w/ more restrictions too. But it seems like the actual reason the government posed restrictions and made them pay a fine (this happened in early april btw) is the government is trying to warn sina for having too much negative opinions about the Chinese government on Weibo (which is under Sina). So Sina has not been doing well lately, losing in the competition. And that is when they found out about Kris...

Since then, things have been going well for Sina, just as they had planned. Kris is seen as a patriotic hero fighting against an evil Korean agency, SM, and Sina is trying to make themselves look patriotic too by supporting Kris, so they can make up for their previous issues w/ the government and ruin Baidu's reputation while doing that by mudslinging SM and portraying Baidu as a company that betrayed its country by joining forces w/ the evil Korean company aka SM. Making Luhan, Tao, and Lay seem like traitors at the same time.

"Seems like Sina's plan is to crash Baidu"

Orignal poster: ì˜¤ìŠ¤ì¹´

Translation: 해삼

If this is even partly true, and more and more fans start to think that way now, cuz the timing of the lawsuit is indeed unique, no artist break the promotions for the sake of getting out, that's rude and damages not only company's reputation, but artists' reputations as well, and that's not what they usually want, even if continuing their career in the showbiz is not their plan. And as we know Kris/WYF would like to make it big as a C-actor.

So though you are shocked and hurt, whoever side you decided or still are deciding to take, just take this into consideration.

Thank you.

I'm so sorry for my raw post earlier, but now it's edited. Hope it's simpler to read & understand

Thank you for the translation!!!!

This theory is fascinating and much like the last post, I find idea that Yifan is just a puppet in this macro "war" to be extremely compelling. I think it wouldn't be such a stretch to believe that some powerful people fed Yifan some ideas about his potential in the Chinese market and he slowly began to fall for it.

The narrative that some fans are pushing about how ~brave~ Kris is going against the big bad SM all alone because they were impeding on his human rights to be less and less plausible by the day. If people think these GIANT Chinese companies are any less sketchy than SM, they need a reality check. These companies make what SM does look like child's play...

Honestly i got into kpop as a way to relieve stress and sort of a way out of reality. Let's face it the music itself although fun and great could be underwhelming when compared to others. So yea, Iam not gonna even lie about this it's crazy to think that k-pop's appeal is on it's music serious business.

I am honestly not here for this excess stupid drama. At the end of the day this is work and if an employee feels like leaving then so be it (let's face it from the way the EXO members reacted and their reasoning for why they did so 'leaviing right before our concert' has shown that more than enough ... anyone who has watched exo showtime will know that these boys bond is questionable at best).

The courts will settle whether it's a breach of contract due to the timing or the conditions qualify for leaving without any of the latter. EXO members going melodramatic when in fact Kris's absence would not put a dent in their actual continuance iand these rumors sourced through 'fansite admins and tumblr' isn't really making it easier. SM wants to make a statment to the artists they have by dragging this to court then like I said the court will decide (even thogh they have lost such a case twice before). But seriously SM ~just let it gooo~

EXO being EXO people are escalating this shit into an indian movie. Kris isn't the first to leave a group and won't be the last. Done with k-pop giving me a goddamn headache and EXO as a whole tbh. I have gone through BB's shit and it wasn't as played out as this shit.

I totally agree with you. Kris is basically being used.

I just wonder if he knew that he would affect EXO this much. Like did he know they would be slandered and that Luhan and Tao and Lay would be seen as traitors. I wanna believe he doesn't realize all this is happening...

Seriously though this is too much drama. Please give me some SMROOKIES or f(x) or something

Please give me some SMROOKIES or f(x) or something

But that leads to the interesting question of how the SMROOKIES are feeling about this.

I wonder if some of them are regretting having signed with SM...

I mean when you're 17 and you're signing a contract to become a famous k-pop star, you're not going to be thinking of years of exhaustion and physical/mental strain, but how fulfilling it will be to live your dream. I think a lot of kids sign contracts without thinking it through, but I mean who can blame them? If I was offered a contract when I was a young teenager, when my dream of getting into SM was still fresh and all I ever wanted, I'm taking it, one way or another.

But when you see how Hyoyeon, who is one of the least popular members of SNSD, or was has enough money to buy a really nice apartment and can date Billionaires..... maybe you are willing to take that risk

Yup, this is definitely another possibility.

iQiyi (under Baidu) won the China Youtube race with "You Who Came from the Star" and they have been actively promoting Korean shows.

Plus yes, Sina is currently having problems with the Chinese government.

Oh well, the Chinese entertainment industry is really shady.

Interesting stuff again, I wonder how much of it is legit tho....

maybe not legit at all. seriously, this is like something coming out from fanfic.

once again, we dont know the truth, so fans keep speculating. but every time i see their opinions, i was like, damn your fantasies getting crazier.

ps. now kris or kris incident was completely buries out from naver, not even topping ranking list anymore. it's not affecting korea at all. in four days, everybody moves one. so we should too.

NO :rlytearpls:

I live in China so I think I have a better understanding of the situation

Not sina against baidu but Kris & his new company against SM

it's impossible and ridiculous for sina to anti exo & sm because sina can make a lot of money and get much attention from kpop stans

and tbh Kris and exo are not famous and important enough to be involved in such business battle :imstupid:
