xiao dejun audition

xfire was the show that made xnine, with xiao zhan, wu jiacheng. also han mubo was on it

it seems like he never made the first cut, but he was a great singer and sang a self composed song. this was like 2 years ago he probably wasnt in SM that long

I'm always surprised at how little effort SM puts at finding Chinese artists. like they stalk dance schools for ready made dancers and find ready made vocalists in China like this. For that little minimal effort, in return they get to control his career for 7 more years and take most of his earnings. good luck xiao dejun!

And now he gets to use SM's resources to promote himself!

That promotion seemed to have worked out for other Chinese members in the recent past

iirc SM didnt promote most of the previous chinese SM groups well in China and they had no connections. they had to hustle for themselves to get gigs. Vic does everything for herself now and still has to give SM money even though she is the one hustling.

You're talking as if China's music industry doesn't keep their artists under slave contracts and uses the artists' own money to make music for them

I've never seen it so blatant as SM where they literally don't do anything for the artists and still take their money. Like usually the management in China is at least putting in something to promote, whereas SM sits back, let's the Chinese artists struggle to make a name in China, lets them work to get gigs and then takes major cut of earnings like for Vic. At least Jackson gets  promoted still by JYP in Korea.

SM was actually doing a decent job at promoting in China for EXO-M up until 2013/2014 when they combined into one.

But at least with NCT they are implementing a new approach where part of the concept is that the members are allowed to graduate whenever they want, according to SM

if a Chinese artist wants to make a name in China primarily then they won't sign with SM, a Korean company in the first place. Yixing stepped forward and got his own studio but SM won't work to make EXO more popular in China than Korea. Chinese artists under SM still get promoted in China but why would SM give more overall importance to CH over KR?

Chinese management is just as bad. 9% and Rocket Girls are already a mess before releasing their debut album.

I actaully don't care with how much they get promoted in China.

My biggest issue with SM is that it doesn't really give its Chinese members the spotlight in Korea, which makes it seem like they primarily treat the Chinese members as tools to make money in China rather than just good vocalists, or good dancers, or valuable members of the team. Like I don't think he'd push a Chinese member to the level he promotes Taeyong? (the main visual of NCT) or Mark in Korea. And then SM actually waits until they are in China making bank, and then takes a cut with doing the least for these kids.

JYP at least seems like he doesn't care if the foreign members get the spotlight in Korea (Jackson/Tzuyu/Nickhun) as long as they are contributing to the group. I wouldn't be bothered as much if that were the case in SM and these kids got a spotlight in Korea regardless of being Chinese/not Korean.

That's my two cents.

1) you don't even know about 9%, didn't you think they released a mv for it's ok and commented on that view count? if you don't know much about them, or like to pretend like you don't know about them, even though you're following their activites, then please refrain from commenting about their status.

2) Can't win them all

You yourself made this thread because SM snatches talented Chinese artists though... so they do pay attention to their talents and debuts them as members. Don't go ahead and tell me that Yukhei wasn't given an attention grabbing part in both Boss and BOB (which only put some members in the center out of all 18 members and Yukhei was the center in a very unique part, even though he's not a main or lead dancer). After some point, it's up to the member to show their talents and if they do so well enough they will be given the chance to show it in China. NCT China, which is NCT's only unit that's primarily promoted in China, hasn't even debuted yet but you're telling me SM doesn^'t give importance to their Chinese artists? A Chinese artist being in a Korean group with the goal of promoting in Korea is one thing, them being in a Chinese centric group promoting in Chine entirely is another. So let's wait to see how Chinese members are promoted in NCT China before saying they're not given as many chances as Korean members do.

Yea I thought 9% made their debut but I didn't realize their Chinese agency is currently putting their debut on hold and looks to be wasting their contracts till they expire.

I know nothing about Xiao jun and his skills, just saw a picture of him today .... he looks striking!

Hopefully SM will debut NCT China unit with Chinese members only.

they could make an unit with him, Lucas, Chenle, Rejun, Jun and Win Win and promote them in Chinese market, which is not that saturated like korean market.

Lmao at this, Chinese management is worse than bad. Yuehua trying to be the next SM, Wang Sicong shady backdoor business w/ these survival shows, plagiarized show literally made a Kang Daniel of China but doesnt know what to do with them, Rocket Girls under investigation because of Tencent mess, Chaoyue debuting etc,

at this point SM should be good.

Even without any group release they're still ranking #1 and way above everyone else in weibo polls because their brand name alone is really big. I think the company is actually doing a decent job by promoting them individually so when they debut as a group all the members have decent popularity along with their solid group brand.

yeah like you're really waiting for their debut. Go listen to nex7 and MR-X if you're really anticipating cpop boygroup MV. But I bet you already have at least watched one because you're really invested in Chinese pop for someone who likes to play dumb about it

1)  China is full of rigorous dance schools/performance arts schools. You don't need to put in a lot of effort or have a lot of vision to pick out good looking talented people from there. I don't think recruiting them = using them, or respecting their talents

2) I had to look up who Yukhei was. He literally got added to the group for one promotion cycle prior to being shoved into this NCT china promo.  So out of 1/5 Chinese members he got some minimal spotlight, probably equivalent to or less than 5 of the Korean members also in that MV.  He was like 4th or 5th in terms of spotlight. TBH from what I can see NCT is probably the group out of all of SM boygroups to give the least attention to the Chinese members if you do not count Han Geng who got shafted over and over and never got lines to sing

3)  My point was Chinese members shouldn't have to be promoted in a chinese subunit before being promoted. Why can't they just promote the members in Korea for their own merits and talents  like with Jackson instead of treating them as tools to eventually make foreign money? I'm sure that JYP wanted foreign members as well to make money, but he doesn't relegate them to only able to shine in China and then shoving them in the background while in Korea.

Nine Percents debut isn't actually on hold, rumours have always suggested that we wouldn't get a musical debut until September. Also even though we're not getting any group music at the moment they're not being wasted either as they're holding a fanmeet tour across China, appearing on variety shows, endorsing multiple brands etc etc so it's not like they're all sitting in a dungeon somewhere.

Whilst some of your points are true and I ain't gonna argue them i'm a bit confused by the Daniel comment. Are you trying to suggest that they don't know what to do with Cai Xukun (the equivalent to Daniel) because if that's the case then you're so wrong. He's getting solo endorsements, magazine covers, tv appearances etc and he's about to release some solo music as well.

If your comment was about the entire group then see my reply above

He's actually really talented and not only a pretty face. I think if promoted properly he could be popular since he has the visuals + talent for that. I didn't know he was in X-Fire like Han Mubo. Now I wouldn't be surprised if SM picked some kids from IP or other similar survival shows too from now since there's def a lot of talent there.
