Skin Care

Hi everyone, I'm asking this for me specifically.

I have rosacea, which isnt an awful skin condition to have but it does get pretty annoying to deal with at times.

Basically here are the things I want to improve with my skin.

Face:

Redness - Nose (most prominent) and Cheeks, chin and above lips.

Dry Skin (Sort of like dandruff) on face, I have to remove it with a muslim cloth, but my skin is sensitive so it hurts, so I don't like exfoliating, but I'm not sure If I should be doing it.

General tone of skin - This pretty much goes with the redness, but I want my skin to be an even tone.

Neck & Chest:

Now with my neck and chest I get sore after shaving, so I have razor burn, but the problem is, I don't like letting my hair grow too long as it gets itchy and looks bad, so since I need to shave I'm going over the problem areas and they're not getting better. My skin is so sensitive to the shaving that I always bleed when shaving, not cutting the skin by accident but just going over it (like its so thin) makes parts bleed.

Putting a mask of moisturizer on does help improve problems such as redness and tone of the skin, but it really is short term.

Can you guys help?

i would like to know as well. i have it too but only on my cheeks. and ive tried everything.

somethings will get rid of the mega dryness and redness. but the area that was red just turns a darker brown than my skin and the texture is still uneven. face mask do work a lil but for a one time thing 3 bucks each can get expensive since ur supposed to use them every other day.

Are you looking for natural/herbal remedies instead of having to use antibiotics or Metrogel?

If that's the case...there are plenty of herbal remedies known to at least help with Rosacea. Everything from Camphor oil to Tea Tree oil to green tea creams, chamomile cold compresses, lavender, oatmeal...and also changing your diet.

This is gonna be a long post.

These are only suggestions, the best think is to see a dermatologist. But hopefully some of these can help you in the meantime. You can google my suggestions too.

1. I hear raw Apple Cider Vinegar (like Braggs) helps with rosacea. 1 part (1/2 tsp.) ACV to 3 parts (1 1/2 tsp) water unless you want to burn (literally) or irritate your skin. You can mix and keep this mixture for 2/3 days. ACV on it's own can last for 5 years and can be kept at room temperature. If you can't get Braggs, make sure you get one with floaty things in it. That's the mother and it's really good. I use ACV for acne prevention (My acne is really mild now, that's the power of ACV). If you have acne. it may get worse when you first use it , but in a week or two, your skin is suddenly way clearer than before you started the ACV. It pulls out the pimples and toxins in your skin, that's why you purge. Witch hazel should also be really helpful, it's really anti inflammatory  You can get it at the drugstore. Get the clear kind, no added dyes.

2. For exfoliation of your face, this is difficult. I would tell you to use a chemical exfoliant like glycolic acid or something, but this could dry out your skin and irritate it. So I'd go with the muslin cloth, but with a twist. 1. Put a good layer of moisturizer on a clean, damp face. Let it stay for 30 seconds 2. Using a wet muslin cloth, gently remove the dead skin. 3. Rinse your face well and apply witch hazel afterwards. 4. then put on a moisturizer. 5. Only do this 2-3 times a week.

3. It also seems you need a better moisturizer or moisturizing routine. You could try to add oils when using your cream. I personally really like Rosehip seed oil. It sells in health food stores, and while it's like $10-$18  per ounce , it lasts a long time (it shouldn't go above $18, then you could be getting robbed). I use the Aura Cacia brand. I hear the NOW brand is also very good. You only need a little. If you want something cheaper, go for Grapeseed oil, Sweet Almond oil (if you don't have a nut allergy) or Apricot Kernel oil. They are usually under $15 per 4 ounces. You could also try Extra Virgin Olive Oil, but it breaks out some people. I used it, and it did break me out a little, but it turns out it was a purging phase and my skin was soon fine. I've also tried Apricot Kernel Oil and I really liked it. But my all time favorite is Rosehip Seed Oil. These oils are generally non comedogenic and most people don't break out, (with the exception of the olive oil, even though that doesn't happen too often either). Don't worry, if they don't work on your face, they can work on your body or your hair. I hear that Cerave cream is good, so you may want to use a creamy moisturizer as a base, and then apply an oil on top to seal and add more moisture to those really dry areas, or even your whole face. I don't really like Cetaphil moisturizer, I don't think it helps to fix the skin.

Please make sure your cleanser does not irritate nor dry the skin. Also, you could do daily honey masks for your skin. I had a bad flare up of dry skin, and daily honey masks saved me ( the key is to smear on the PURE honey and cut up saran wrap and put it on top of the honey to make a dressing). You can leave it on anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour.

4. For shaving, exfoliate your chest the upcoming 2/3 days before you shave with exfoliating gloves (very cheap, you can get them in a drugstore or at a beauty supply store or online). Be gentle with the gloves. You use them with soap in the shower. You can use them every day actually. Shave with lotion, hair conditioner or an oil like Extra virgin olive oil. Use witch hazel on the shaved areas right after and then put on a moisturizer or a moisturizing mask (If you wash them off, don't wash off these masks). make sure your skin is clean before you shave.

5. If you want a more even tone, you should focus on moisturizing your skin well and exfoliating 2-3 times a week. I would like to recommend green tea extract, because I've found it helps with this. It is best used diluted though. You can dilute it in your apple cider vinegar mixture, it works really well in it. I don't know why, but it seems to work well in the mix. Use 10 drops of extract. You can get it at a health food store for $15-$18. Once again, it lasts forever. There are 590- 600 drops in an ounce so you should be fine. Please don't try to add water to make the extract last longer, as a general rule don't add water to skin care products, even those with preservatives. Unless you want a serious skin infection. However, if you can't afford that, you could try the dried tea. For this, you make it into a very strong and concentrated tea and use it on the skin. Leave the green tea to steep for at least 1 hour. You'll have to make it fresh every time. There are also Vitamin C serums, which you can also check out on Makeupalley. But PM me for that, it takes a bit of explaining.

Wow that was a great read, thanks for that. I'm going to put that into practice.

I'd see a derm, but for exfoliation, I would suggest Cure Natural Aqua Gel, it's about 35 bucks for a 250 mL bottle, but you only have to use it once or twice a week, and it doesn't have those irritating particles in it. I got my hands on a bottle and it's really the most amazing exfoliator I've ever used, it didn't irritate my skin, and it felt so smooth afterwards.

I highly recommend to see a dermatologist, I do so and i'm a male, so don't be ashamed or feel like is something trivial , go and see what he/she tells you; there's a cream that is super effective on me, it's " Hydrating Skin Re-Support Day Cream" from L'oreal, mention it to your dermatologist
