When I was in the 8th grade or maybe the first year of high school, I met a friend of a friend and we hung out a few times, went to buy bread together once, and waited for my friend for two hours at a cafe (she didn't show up). I thought we were just acquaintances, friendly at most. Nothing ever happened between us, and I mean nothing. I think he might've held my hand once when I almost fell and he caught me and stopped me from tripping, and that's literally it. I don't think we ever saw each other after he stopped hanging out with my friend. I recently went back to my hometown and met up with said friend and he was there too. Seems they reconnected. Apparently he wanted to come along to meet me because it's been so long and apparently, he really wanted to see me because we once dated and he thought we should catch up. "We dated?" I asked him, confused. I didn't even remember his name, let alone know he thought that buying pastries together and stopping a person from falling once equals a love relationship. "Yeah, you know, that one spring when we were kids?" I didn't know. Our friend didn't know. No one knew. Because we didn't actually date. He just thought that we were dating for some reason. After I told him that, he went really quiet and said nothing for a while. The friend tried to break the silence, but the whole situation felt really awkward. I think he at one point just said, "Wow." One of the most awkward experiences of my life. When we said goodbye and he finally left, me and the friend were both mortified. hgludfisfgdhifopihgdfxk

 

edit: Oh, and I forgot to say that the time the friend did not show up, she texted him to say not to wait for her because she got stuck in school, and he didn't tell me for some reason. I only found that part out when I remembered to ask the friend about it when it was just the two of us.

LMAO what even, I had the same experience once, this guy in middle school told everyone he and me were dating just because we talked once or twice and connected well, everyone who came to was like "congrats" and i was like what? :S

OMG only after you said that I realized that he probably also told people that we were dating grdhtfjzthgfdsadfgthztrewdfsgdhd

yet people still think we're together

 

like yall i literally wore knee high socks to school on multiple occasions

my best friend is gay and I'm a girl and people would always assume we were a couple when we were younger but now everyone who knows us knows that's not the case, but random people still somehow assume we're dating lmao

and I have similar rumors pop up with a female friend of mine too

a lot of people seem to either be heteronormative or fetishizers

It must have been super weird for you but don't feel bad for his stupidity, and is super weird to be like that even if you were highschool. He could just had said he liked you back then or something like that but I guess he assumed you also liked him back then, lol.

 

I recall hanging out with a girl at that age and at one point she said she was my girlfriend or something like that, didn't actually bother me as I did like her but we really weren't dating.
