Corysilk 16
I was watching Sorn from CLC and she talked about how when she first came to Korea her company said she had to lose 15Ibs because she was too athletic from all the sports she played in Thailand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0L6YPHHkag It made me wonder if ALL companies discourage their female idols from becoming fit. I'm not talking body builder fit either, just a normal athletic physique that most women get after working out.
JENNIE'S OPPA 3,082
I remember when Luna of f(x) debuted, she had really muscular thighs and the poor girl got so much shit for it. She ended up getting those carboxy shots on her legs. You can see the difference from her debut era to her rum pum pum era. Idols, unfortunately, have to fit a certain standard of visuals to even survive in that industry. It's sad...

fleur-noire. 2,287
I don't think all companies do. Part of Sistar's image and appeal was the fact that they had fit, 'healthy' looking bodies. Maybe the concept CLC was going to debut with and the physical appearance of the other members made the company want her to lose weight? Idk. AloHara 1,022
You can kinda be fit but only skinny fit - Krystal and Seulgi got a lot of praises for their abs but if you start getting thicker with muscle you'll get backlash
respectmyauthori-tah 1,450
I never saw any problem but I do prefer slim, slender and athletic bodies. It's perfectly possible to slim, slender and athletic. This is my personal opinion but I think really very much defined muscles does not look nice in front of cameras Usually female idols work out their legs due to dance's routines and gym's exercises but not that much to make them look powerhouses while the upper body is more focused to form nice abs I think every girls group there is at least one member with a body that fits into the athletic model you're looking for Even a girl group known for soft image like Apink 2 of Apink's girls are known for being athletic, Bomi is former very serious Taekwondo's player who goes to the gym and Eunji a gym's rat with nice defined muscles. Eunji has become the posterchild of female idols with well defined muscles
JENNIE'S OPPA 3,082
They have shots that decrease muscle mass?? Yeah, I think the correct term for it is called carboxy therapy. I'm not too informed about the whole process, but I know it's non-surgical.

Corysilk 16
Actually, CLC's Seunghee has a quite thick body... Wow she's extra thick! Maybe she carries extra weight better than Sorn did so they made an exception

abra 40,910
I think it's generally accepted as long as the muscles aren't too big and bulky, especially on the legs

Digiwon 5,843
Sistar was considered fit. Wendy used to have a pretty athletic body too, she had abs and everything but her body is always changing.

I've noticed that even out of shape asian men have nice calves.
BoraKaiBae 1,478
I think that depends on the company.. SISTAR for example, at first they're skinny during debut but they we're known as athletic group/idol after Bora/Sistar won a lot of awards on ISAC. So since then, the company build their group as athletic healthy sexy idol. Myabe it depends also on how the public describe them and grab that opportunity to become one. Oli London 1,762
It has nothing to do with how fit/athletic a female idol is. As long as they are slim and don't build bigger muscles, it's "acceptable". It's about how you look. When female idols are "too" thick somewhere, it doesn't matter if it's muscle or fat, they still gonna get shit for it. I usually hate how in the west skinny girls get shamed into building muscle, but the opposite is just as bad. How do they expect them to be able to do all those choreo's when they have to worry about not getting too much muscle?
