The groups name is Nizi, debut in November 2020.

Β

Nizi is cute! it makes them totally sound like Itzy's sister group! but...November 2020 huh...

Β

Β

Β Also it seems like they won't be using their own Japanese trainees, did they lose them? Maybe they will useΒ  them but this really makes it seem like they're just going to audition for everything. Especially since part of the concept here with two different reality shows is to show the Japanese girls' progression during training. JYP said that part of the appeal of Jpop is that fans like to see their idols grow over time, and the kpop appeal is that they are 'perfect', so this is going to combine both aspects in that way.

Β

Hmmmm...idk about this.... I feel like the whole "Japanese ppl like to see idols grow" is a bit of a generalization considering the growing popularity of kpop among young people. Nayeon is the most popular Twice member in Japan and she's basically a idol golden child. I feel like it's a waste to save Mako as the token Japanese member in the nkrgg when she's perfect for this fusion concept (dance skills of a long-term trainee + jpop visuals). I understand not having enough trainees and casting/trainingΒ  new ones, but I don't get not including current trainees who already have hype + skill. I mean, Natty and Tzuyu only had a few months of training to compare with Jihyo's ten so...Also I feel like JYP has been getting other promising jpn trainees thrown at him during auditions and he's just not done anything (a mixed former sm trainee like hello??). If I had to make a Japanese 16 I would probably cast any Japanese trainee in the right age range and start them training together asap.Β

Β

Β

He says "this project will be a hub, we will hold global audition on a regular basis and aim to construct a scheme to permanently produce high quality idol artists".Β  Is JYP making JYP44 in the long run!?!?!

Β

Β

I really hope not...again 48 type groups are not a universally popular in Japan as people think and they appeal to a more niche market. If they combined unskilled trainees + plus giant group size it would just be stereotypical jpop group and ruin the fusion concept and global market appeal.Β

I feel like Mako will be saved for this team

I really hope soΒ lovestruck.png

Β Ahn Yuna is likely being saved for the next Korean girl group since it looks like she grew up in Korea and she might not even be fluent in Japanese

Β

I think so too.. but part of me really loves the idea of both the Japanese group and Itzy having a Yuna as the maknae~

thanks to answer meΒ smile.pngΒ I will really like it if they have at least one mix bloodΒ laugh.pngΒ Its great they think that for Japanese GG too

I think that's v likely even if Yuna A doesn't participate. Half (white) ppl at least are mostly accepted and there are lots of white/japanese celebs, and mixed Japanese of other races are also gaining visibility with groups like Bananalemon and Gloss + the three most recent seasons of Terrace HouseΒ

Seems like there never were hidden japanese trainees (i'm not suprised since the showcase is pretty much the testing grounds for all JYP trainees) and they plan to make another Sixteen but with newbies, it might make a good show but it's a pretty risky move to make a good group.

Β

I hope they have at least already scouted some. It would be cool if Hana's dance school sent someone

Idk I think Fromis_9 is a pretty good group. I think/hope that some of the girls will be former trainees at other companies like a lot of the Fromis girls are (I hope he casts that Ravi girl assuming she rly is Japanese + former sm trainee)

kinda random but do we have any idea if the show will be broadcast on an actual Japanese tv channel like Sixteen was broadcast in Korea or will it just be on Youtube like YGTB? rn I think that the October meeting the girls program will be just on Youtube but the fr survival show will be on proper tv but idk if Sony Japan has connections to certain tv networks or anything like thatΒ

What happened with the show?

No idea...I think either it was held back so as not to compete with Produce Japan as the main kpop-inspired-jpop survival show or to restructure the concept (perhaps to include existing trainees?) It seems as though JYP has already invested too much in this idea to completely abandon it, but just based on what j-netz who participated in the audition were saying on twitter it seems like not v many girls passed and those that did were quite young so if he did give up on Nizi he'd just be left w a bunch of Japanese 02-04 liners to potentially debut in the next Korean group/be traded to other companies so...not the worst thing in the world I guess but kinda disappointing-Β
