I feel like a terrible friend...

I have a friend that suffer from depression and has attempted many suicides. Because of my own health I had to distance myself from this person but now we have decided to meet up again. The problem is that it is very hot where I live all year around and this person has scars all over the body.

Growing up my family was very conservative and demanding that everything had to look “perfect†on the outside and I have made a lot of new friends. Now I feel anxiety about me being judged for being seen with him out... (by strangers and friends)

yeah if your depressed and working on it, being around someone else who is depressed can make it worse. i undertand why u distanced your self, you have to think about your own health.

at the end of the day its not your sole responsibility to look out for that friend, their family has the biggest burden and his/her friends should share some of  it, not all, i know how exhausting and draining it can be trying to help someone who is depressed. at the end of the day if its reached suicidal levels the only thing that can truely help is a therapist who can get to the underlying causes.

however this is hyour friend have some sympathy!!  if people judge them for the scares they are unsympathetic and your friend is better of not meeting them and your friend is better off not meeting with you tbh.

About the scars thing...

People are going to judge you no matter what you do. You could literally just breathe and people will still judge laugh.png. So I think you should stop worrying about that. You're meeting with your friend because you like him and are happy to see him, so what everyone else thinks doesn't really matter. When you two are out, just keep reminding yourself that no one elses' opinion is important, and in reality it wont affect you. And remember that there is also the possibility that you wont be negatively judged at all. So try to keep thinking positive thoughts.

Also, since people make judgements all the time, they're more likely to forget them. So think about that too. Having a fear of being judged is relatable, but you can definitely overcome it. Good luck OP, and have fun with your friend ^^
