I've been on a 3-months BTS haul and now i have thoughts so - thread(if you disagree with the hashtag don't be a Grinch and let people be obsessed with the music they like):

I'm not one for automatic positive response to having self-written/composed/produced songs in one's repertoire: good thing for artist's personal development and bank account but as a casual listener i wouldn't care. Once you're a non-casual listener it's where appreciation starts i believe.

BTS IS very much a kpop group but also not. They're more like the hustlers of k-pop industry

a271cfe0a918afeab2e1fc5f413994db4391ee59

Originally a try-hard hip-hop group they pivoted to even more pretentious artsy aesthetics and a great variety of sound while their rappers retained the better side of hip-hop culture - quality flows, party rhymes&catchy hooks, and also actually writing your own verses.

And pivoted very much successfully - thank you Hitman Bang for your hella impressive artistic vision.

Thank you Bang-man again for their at first kinda imposed social consciousness(the whole bulletproof-protection-of-youth shtick). Because of their persistence and consistency with broaching serious topics, and their not-rushed story-telling through MVs and albums, they can now touch on loads of serious subjects and not come of as repulsively disingenuous.

So the point being: BTS came to be a group with the body of work that appeals to many through the methods that been known to not one generation of k-pop acts. But then somehow they also made many(ARMY how u doing) actually care about what they have to say. And that's the moment where my appreciation kicked in: what members have to say is what they are saying and then sometimes, when you look at the bigger picture, they are saying even more.

And the true artâ„¢'s ambiguity combined with very much concrete personal musings about life made for such level of fan-engagement in their music that it is kinda maybe unprecedented for the hallyu wave.

So tell me: how much did members' involvement in groups' music production influence your opinion about BTS?

Also post BTS songs you related to.

honestly, I think there are a lot of idols in the k-industry beyonce-ing it and putting their names on songs that they probably contributed one line to. (or if they're EXACTLY like bey, they legit just add an ad-lib and smack their name in the credits.)

korean companies realize there's more prestige in having 'producer-idols' which is why it's so common these days to have idols get credited to songs. back in first & second gen, this was a lot less common.

Why do u pretend like group like seventeen or bigbang don't exist. In fact seventeen is much more involved in creation then bts ever was.

Stop trying to make it seem like bts is objectively better then other groups that not the case and will only get hate for bts.

lol ok i did not realise this was a hate post since they don't usually have 30 lines sorry for my naivety but if u think i have a hate boner for bts ur clearly don't know me. I was probably here before u saying how bts would be the first one to start the hallyu wave in america and would become mainstream. I was at my peak as fan during danger era. I wished nothing but the best for bts and supported them by buying merch and votes/views. hell if u go throught my tread history im sure u can find post trying to promote bts.

It sad to feel so victimize you think everybody who say something negative or even neutral is out for you favs.

What I know is that BIGBANG has their own way in their music production;

to designing their album;

to designing their own lightstick;

to creating their own stage in their concert;

to have successful solo;

to have solo concert;

to half of the member entered the top kpop concert list (in quantity);

Tea.

If they were, either they wouldn't be where they are today or any other kpop group would be there. Conclusion: BTS are legends, I agree.
