Does Beyonce have an identity crisis?

As some of you may have noticed, I've backed off of Beyonce in recent years. I feel that there's a real regression and pandering that I'm simply not here for. I watched her new video yesterday, and it was quite cringey. Why is she a mumble rapper now? Why is she wearing less and less now? It seems as if she's trying to cash in on current youth trends, even though she's on the verge of 40. But this has been the case for the past few years. Honestly, it reminds me a lot of Madonna, who eventually alienated a large part of her longtime fan base due to these youth-pandering antics that didn't pan out. I know a lot of longtime Beyonce fans who have just checked out.

What happened to Beyonce, the R&B singer? I remember back when "4" came out, she said that she wanted to promote R&B, since the world, and a number of R&B singers, had shifted to EDM in light of Lady Gaga's success, effectively ending R&B's popularity in the mainstream (which has still not recovered about a decade later). She was above the fray then, so why not be above it now?

Why drop your Diana Ross / Tina Turner impersonator shtick (that gave you great success) to emulate Migos (a gimmicky, flash in the pan act)? She wants to be above the fray when it comes to social media and interviews and appearances (let's be real, it's because she's about as bright as a toenail), so why not emulate that in your music and image?

I just wonder, will her career basically be over in the next few years when she gets into her 40s?

Her career won't ever be over until she called it over herself.

'Beyonce' brand is too big and established and there is still no female artist in the industry that can be like her yet. Only 'Beyonce be Beyonce', people is here for her live. Her name can always guarantee a sold out tour.

But thanks for letting me know she release new music, I will check it out. But I guess I understand for long term fans that love her for certain type music, for people that don't care, we are there for live.

She's literally dragging her husband ass on a stadium world tour despite having done one a year ago. Her carreer ain't gonna be anywhere near over anytime soon.

Youtube views are irrelevant, her name is ridiculously powerfull.

The same could be said about Madonna and Janet around the same age...

TBH I think she's just trying to hard to be hard and it comes off so many different levels of fake.

I really doubt her career is gonna take a hit because she has some diehard fans that'll buy anything she releases. Plus if she drops something more Sasha Firece old fans will come back.

And being Sasha Fierce again means that she would have to sing instead of being a mumble rapper.

Madonna carreer was not over near beyonce age. Hell it's still not over and she's like walking bones.

Anytime she releases now, people go on about how much a flop she is. Her age has greatly hampered her career. I don't see why Beyonce would be any different, especially seeing as how Madonna was much bigger than Beyonce ever was.

People and their tastes change, Ronald. Not everyone is an old, kid-hating, set-in-their-way grump past the age of 34. imstupid.png

Beyoncé has been on a mature-themed urban genre-exploring phase since 2013, and that has only brought her more acclaim.

EDIT:

Stream Apeshit on Youtube.

EDIT 2: On your Madonna and Janet point, the former was 36 in 1994 (the year of Bedtime Stories), and the latter in 2002 (just after All for You and before the infamous Super Bowl).

Bleh...

Their live isn't phenomenal with media like Beyonce did. Beyonce still make sns explode with her live recently.

hmmm? madonna was waay older than bey when she put out 2 of her most acclaimed eras, music and confessions.

Even years after that she did the biggest female tour ever with sticky and sweet. So no.

Beyonce don't depend on her hardcore fans (I doubt there is a fraction that hardcore stanning her. Only young artists like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber get that type of fandom culture). Everyone would willingly pay to watch her, so her career can't be over.

We will see.

I just don't feel Madonna consistently influent on media as Beyonce did here.

When I heard about Madonna be4, its just about gossip (talk about her trashy stage outfit, call her old to be that way etc) while Beyonce with empowerment image is one. She will always be appreciate, and like I say there isn't a female artist in the industry that is phenomenal known with that great image (an icon). It is hard for me to believe that some music change will bring her down for public.

She is just another pop star. She comes off as insincere and so does her relationship with Jay unsure.png

I've never thought of them as being in love. It was basically two people at the top of their genres joining forces. A nice business arrangement.

They did make waves with their lives at their peaks though. This was pre-social media.

There is nothing mature about being a mumble rapper.

And I actually like a number of young, new acts.

Fake isn't the right word for it, more like she lacks the skills to rap. She was definitely not faking it cuz she was trying too hard. She was 80% rapping in Apeshit and she's trying to push herself to do more but it came off real dry. She's all for experimenting and pushing boundaries but it didn't come off as smooth as probably what she had thought. She should just stick to singing and just let Jay do his thing
