The X-men universe/movies is separate because of Fox having the rights and as long as they keep making movies they don't revert back to Marvel. Marvel has already constructed their movie universe without mutants in it. Quicksilver/Scarlet Witch have sorta similar powers, but aren't mutants in it. Gambit is like...this suave somewhat angsty hot guy and while Tatum is hot(ish) he doesn't really fit the two aforementioned characteristics.
