What do you think of Korean rappers who ATTEMPT to rap in African-American Vernacular English?

Myself in general don't care for rap music or hip hop or whatever the kids call it these days as I personally don't think speaking fast to a beat takes talent

but I watched a few bits of Show Me The Money and some "undergroud" Korean rappers that my rap/hip hop friends suggested and

They're not African-American so why are they rapping in African-American Vernacular English? Isn't it considered cultural appropriation?

It also happens in K-pop. Do they think they're black? Cause they're not. And it doesn't make them look "cool" or "gangsta" they look stupid

By the way, Show Me The Money is the most embarrassing show I've ever watched. Pretty sure those gangsta wannabees have never seen a gun in their life so who are they fooling

Examples: Lisa from BlackPink does it THE MOST. YG rappers I've noticed do it THE MOST. Also in Fire, Jimin said "ERRBODY SAY LA LA LA" instead of "everybody" and ERRbody is known to be AAVE

i mean... this seems like a messy thread but i'm still not over *nympho* 0u0plz.png but how is that african american vernacular? i'd say it's more about using western slang?

i thought this was going to be an interesting discussion.

I can't add my opinion either because it'll look like i'm taking sides

SO: I hate that these issues can't be approached in an intelligent way because i do think you have a point but REALLY poorly presented.

Excellent point. I think they use AAVE because they want to attact American fans since that is where the money is. I wish they would stop though because it is very cringey.

I'm sure you care a lot about this "issue". I recommend some sleeping pills so you can sleep better at night without having to think about BTS saying errbody.

Of course I care. I may be half-white half-black but I'm still part of the black community and that's my culture being disrespected.

1. Why do you spend your time watching things you don't care about

2. They use it because they think it's cool, they don't know it could be problematic because no one told them it was. Just like other countries' artists who do hip hop, they get their inspiration from America's hip hop artists. It's not just korean hip hop artists. Doesn't excuse that it can be considered as such.

3. They know they aren't black. They look stupid and that's your opinion.

What did I say this time that was racist?

Everything you said is racist. What are you insinuating by this thread? What you are basically saying is that (for example) if someone is not black and they sing a song written by someone of that ethnicity they deserve to be shamed and are stupid. Is there a problem with people trying to speak other languages? Does everyone who isn't Korean and still tries to sing along with their favourite K-pop songs stereotyped as stupid and dumb? Do you have to see a gun to sing about it? Do you have to be of an ethnicity to do anything related to it?

Is the faith in your culture that weak that you feel it's being disrespected by someone korean saying errbody? Really? They just made a song with spanish vibes saying "El Mariachi", I'd convulse on the floor if I worried as much as you about pieces of my culture being used.

Get well soon babe, that looks pretty bad.

Errbody is like a very loose form of aave, i would say its one that most black people wouldnt be mad other people said (in certain context).

Its cringy sometimes when they use aave to sound cool but imo most of them feel like they have to, to be authentic.

What the fuck? I never said people can't speak other languages. What does that have to do with a DIALECT?

They rap in AAVE when it's none of their business. They're not african-american. This is the REAL cultural-appropriation.

Is it though? The Star Spangled Banner, we say o'er the ramparts instead of over the ramparts.

It's just sometimes songwriters twist the language a bit to fit the song.

Sometimes they can't roll their tongue to say the "r".

Thread was worth it for this reply. I’m howling.

OP, based on your discomfort and lack of respect for rappers, I think you should continue to refrain from stanning the groups you’ve tagged. Please.
