Is misandry a thing?

like, I'm racking my brain trying to think of a situation where misandry is a thing and.. I've got nothing. I'm especially struggling to understand the presence of MRAs in societies that are highly patriarchal like South Korea, how can you possibly delude yourself into thinking men's rights is something that even needs fighting for?

Misandry is definitely a thing but it's not an issue. It's irrational behavior practiced by some feminists, but just that--it hardly effects society. It isn't harmful so much as it is annoying, but not really worth it for society to pay much attention to and view as being a serious problem. Kinda like reverse racism in the West. It exists, but isn't a big deal. Misandry is something problematic to the individual spewing it, but to society? Not so much.

It's not systematic nor is there a cultural phenomenon that belittles or subjugates men. There are a few circumstances in between such as child custody where women may get custody by default but that's all I can recall.

There are people who just hate men and that's likely what people refer to when they talk about misandry. That hatred comes about from a lot of things but when it gets conflated with misogyny as another side of the same coin...it is annoying.

Um, what?

This is just like when people say you can't be racist against white people..

I'm a woman and a feminist btw, but I can definitely think of MANY cases where misandry is a thing.

Men are expected to be "manly" and not show emotions..one of the reasons why the suicide rate is higher among males

Men are often mocked or not believed when they are sexually abused or harassed

A man can lose his job simply for being accused of sexual harassment when he may not have actually done it

There is a lot of rape of males in prisons

Etc etc etc

Yes, even institutionally there can be and is misandry. In many countries men are required to do military service or can be drafted and women are not.

Just because one group has bigotry against them that is more widespread or historic does not mean another group does not have bigotry against them. It doesn't mean the first group's problems are any less bad so I don't know why people are threatened by this enough to claim that it doesn't exist.

You don't have to hate men to believe in those though. Just because you're disadvantaged doesn't mean it was because people hated or had something against you. They just didn't think that your problems were a big deal.

That's the same thing with a lot of sexism against women though. Many people don't actually hate or have something against women but can still think an issue involving sexism is not a big deal.

YES misandry it is a thing, and YES there is institutionalized misandry, if you think there isn’t either you have not been paying attention or you are ignorant whether it be willful or not.

It is very important to apply principal over bias for the betterment of humanity, otherwise you are just another shitty parallel of the system you claim to be against.

....You know all these things are a product of patriarchy right?

Thank you for actually having common sense

That sexism didn't really involve misogyny then. The examples you gave were actually practical reasons given the conditions of the past, i.e there were many wars. It wouldn't really have done society good to have men be average in strength, not with an enemy tribe looking to steal your resources. The sexual harassment example you gave is because employers don't wan't any possible liabilities for someone who is easily replaceable.

That doesn't mean it's okay to do against men who didn't contribute to it.

Literally not my point. I'm saying the things you're describing aren't a product of misandry, those things weren't born out of a hatred or prejudice against men but are a byproduct of patriarchal standards.
