They do dome tours so they clearly have a big fanbase but as one of the top BG of 3rd gen, their selling power in terms of album sales are low in Japan..

They are not dominant in Japan like other kpop groups..

What is the main reason for this?

EXO was meant for China , before SM fucked things up .

hence why they didn't release any japanese song since 2012 untill 2015 I guess or later , and it was a lame remake . Because Thaad become a huge deal and SM knew the China is no longer willing to accept korean idols on their brodcasts

Their promotions in Japan literally don't exist. I feel like SM released those few Japanese releases as a kind of gift to J-fans. What's the point in spending millions on promotion when EXO's fandom in Japan is huge? Let's not forget EXO was the first and only kpop group to ever hold a concert in Tokyo Dome before their Japanese debut. Which happened two years later.

Uh EXO's Japanese sales are more than fine what? Specially considering what SM/AVEX does to promote them which is close to zero. They are definitely up there as one of the most popular kpop groups in Japan so I don't understand where this "concern" is coming from lol
