  • Hundred Million Stars From the Sky: Episode 7 (recaps)

100MillionE07-01016-copy.jpg

Moo-young seems obsessed by the power that one person can wield in the lives of perfect strangers. As Jin-kook wrestles with his own troubled past, it’s possible that there’s a connection that explains Moo-young’s singular curiosity. Moo-young’s relationship with Seung-ah has served as a real life experiment, but what exactly is it meant to prove?

EPISODE 7: “One million dollarsâ€

Moo-young loads his birthday cake with candles while he mulls over the reason that Jin-kang considers him pitiful — he has to win no matter what, with no regard for anyone who gets destroyed in the process. Moo-young recalls how he moved very closely to Jin-kang to ask if she had any feelings for him, but she managed to answer with a firm, “No, I don’t.†While Moo-young stares at the burning candles, there’s a knock at his door and when he opens it, he’s yanked outside.

Jin-kang sits on the steps outside of her home, deep in thought, and then stands up and walks away. She bumps into someone on the street on the way to Moo-young’s place and gets a look at the man when she apologizes.

When Jin-kang reaches Moo-young’s rooftop, she witnesses his attack and hides to call the police, but she flies to his side when he’s beaten with a pole. Jin-kang throws herself protectively in front of Moo-young, which forces the men to leave, and she’s able to see how badly he’s been beaten. Meanwhile, Jin-kook wakes up in his room, the flyer about the missing boy close by.

At the hospital, Jin-kang does her best to describe Moo-young’s attackers to a policeman. The officer explains that Moo-young needs to file a report at the police station in order to bring charges and sue his attackers.

COMMENTS

I should have expected that spectacular accident after that tension-filled car chase, especially since I’ve been worried about Seung-ah ever since she became involved with Moo-young, but it caught me by surprise. That’s because I didn’t realize that Woo-sang was Moo-young’s target all along, not Seung-ah — she was just the means that Moo-young used to get to the arrogant chaebol. Which begs the question, why? What was it about Woo-sang that got Moo-young’s attention?

It was the elaborate hoax that Woo-sang expected Seung-ah to go along with, the pottery of an established artist that he purchased to pass off as Seung-ah’s. His fiancée wasn’t accomplished enough in her own right, so Woo-sang had to “buy†Seung-ah the reputation that his status required. At this point, we know how much Moo-young hates lies, and Woo-sang’s ruse and his smugness when Seung-ah protested, is what prompted Moo-young to insert himself into their lives. Moo-young decided to find out how much one man could derail Woo-sang’s once untouchable life and how far Woo-sang would go to stop him. The accident proves that Woo-sang was just as unrelenting as Moo-young, just as dangerous and just as unconcerned about those around him.

100MillionE07-00923-copy.jpg

Poor Seung-ah, if the breaking of her bracelet serves as a foreshadowing of her fate, it’s probable that she won’t survive the real-life duel between Woo-sang and Moo-young. Even though Moo-young used her to get to Woo-sang and never loved her, I think he was drawn to her internal struggles — money or freedom, comfort or love, Woo-sang or Moo-young. Moo-young seemed to know Seung-ah better than she knew herself, and he gave her permission to be someone other than the sheltered, rich girl she had always been. Moo-young cared not one bit about money, which was Seung-ah’s kryptonite, and I think that’s the one trait that attracted her the most. Moo-young’s disinterest in material things gave Seung-ah the courage to break free, so it’s no surprise that the one thing that she valued, the one thing that she took with her when she left her family home, was the simple bracelet that Moo-young gave her for her birthday.

Even more chilling than the accident were the old memories it triggered in Moo-young. He is the missing boy who’s been haunting Jin-kook, and he was once happy and carefree, until a gunshot shattered his life. One man, one event, and lives forever changed. It’s no surprise that Moo-young developed a fascination with the power that one individual can wield over random lives, because that’s what happened to him. It makes Jin-kook’s warning, “You’ll have to pay up eventually,†sound even more ominous. Jin-kook is the one who’s been living a lie for over twenty-five years — he’s not Jin-kang’s biological brother. There’s a reason that Jin-kook raised Jin-kang and an explanation as to why the missing boy still haunts him. It seems that Jin-kook could soon be the one who’s about to pay up.

Hundred Million Stars From the Sky: Episode 8 (recaps)

hundred-00009.jpg

Moo-young’s dangerous game has resulted in a scenario no one saw coming and the ripple effect spreads far and wide. As everyone deals with the aftermath, Jin-kook struggles to protect Jin-kang while her own feelings threaten to tear her apart.

EPISODE 8: There’s No Trace of Him

Yoo-ri meets Jin-kook at the station and recounts her memory of the night Jeong Mi-yeon died. She remembers coming to in Mi-yeon’s apartment and spying on her fighting with her boyfriend through a crack in the door. After the boyfriend left, Yoo-ri says she remembers blood and nothing else.

Meanwhile, a concerned Jin-kang knocks on Moo-young’s door, only to be met with silence. She tries calling him but Moo-young ignores his phone as he and Seung-ah speed down the highway with Woo-sang hot on their trail. Moo-young warns Seung-ah not to let Woo-sang catch up seconds before an oncoming truck forces her to swerve.

Their car screeches to a halt just in time for Woo-sang to t-bone them, sending both cars tumbling over the guardrail. Moo-young and Seung-ah are flipped upside down and are illuminated by a fiery explosion. In the back of his mind, Moo-young hears someone call his name and he flashes back to his childhood, in a room with a boiling teapot.

Two men with obscured faces stand off and one shakily levels a gun at the other, as young Moo-young watches in horror. A shot rings out and Moo-young’s eyes fly open only to slip back into unconsciousness.

100MillionE08-00025.jpg

Early the following morning, Jin-kang runs down the street as Seung-ah’s mother’s tearful voice rings in her ears that Seung-ah was in an accident and the man she was with had been killed. Jin-kang freezes when a news bulletin flashes across a jumbo screen, announcing Woo-sang’s death and Seung-ah’s critical condition. Oddly, there’s no mention of Moo-young.

Jin-kook takes Yoo-ri back to Jeong Mi-yeon’s apartment, hoping it’ll jog her memory. She can’t bring herself to go inside, though, and runs away. Jin-kook chases behind her, noting the security cams as they go. His phone suddenly rings and he ducks out of sight.

100MillionE08-00040.jpg 100MillionE08-00042.jpg

Turns out the call was from Jin-kang and Jin-kook rushes to meet her at the hospital. Meanwhile, a team of doctors inform Jin-kang and Seung-ah’s mother that she’s out of surgery, and is expected to recover. Seung-ah’s mother pulls Jin-kang into a hug but they pull apart when Woo-sang’s secretary appears to announce Seung-ah is being transferred to her room.

Jin-kook arrives and Jin-kang fills him in, frowning as she adds that something isn’t right. Jin-kook checks with the information desk and reports back to Jin-kang that Moo-young isn’t registered as a patient in the hospital. She insists that she saw him in Seung-ah’s car and Woo-sang was following them and can’t understand why the news is reporting that Seung-ah was in Woo-sang’s car with no mention of Moo-young whatsoever.

COMMENTS

Holy heartache, Batman! There’s so much to unpack this episode, I’m probably not going to get to it all, but what a way to hit our halfway point! The deaths of Woo-sang and Seung-ah each created a ripple effect and while Woo-sang’s so far has been restricted to his company and passing over the reins (to his sister? cousin? I need the show to introduce her already, I’m sick of calling her “the womanâ€), Seung-ah’s had a deep impact on the Yoo siblings. Particularly Jin-kang, because not only were they best friends, Jin-kang wasn’t able to resolve her guilt over Moo-young before Seung-ah passed on.

Her guilt with Cho-rong is a different story. She had tried calling him out to talk and odds are she was planning to break up. It’s only fair because he’s the sweetest puppy and he doesn’t deserve to be strung along. Alas, she may have missed her window because Cho-rong definitely picked up on the weirdness of Moo-young following her home. Not to mention, I can’t imagine Jin-kang sitting still after hearing he’s been charged with murder. Because despite knowing he’s kind of a sociopath, I still don’t think he murdered Jeong Mi-yeon. Plus holy dang that kiss!

100MillionE08-00111.jpg

And it’s clear Jin-kook doesn’t think Moo-young murdered Jeong Mi-yeon either. Although, that doesn’t do anything to alleviate his contention with Moo-young. We know Moo-young is the little boy Jin-kook was looking for, but the remaining details are still fuzzy. It’s been suggested heavily that Jin-kook is the one that shot Moo-young’s father, but then why did he do it? Does that mean he was searching for Moo-young out of guilt? And how does Jin-kang tie in to all this? This show is so stingy with its answers!

All I know for sure is next week is going to be chaotic. Moo-young has been arrested, but what about Yoo-ri? It looked like she was turning herself in to Jin-kook. Will Cho-rong be willing to listen after Jin-kook kept him in the dark? Especially since his relationship with Jin-kang is hanging by a thread and he doesn’t even know it. Is it too much to ask for the innocent puppy to have a happy ending?

Kudos for keeping the thread alive smile.png

I love SIG's character, and how he looks here! Like a stray that's a bit rough around the edges. At this point, I really don't want to believe that he's the killer but there's every chance that he is. You want to believe that his heart is moving for her, but there's every chance that it isn't. Don't know what to believe anymore... Can't wait for tonight's episode, I'll probably watch it raw lol

its my pleasure... i love dis drama so bad, eventho i didnt watch the original jdrama vers lol

hey FranCella, you've woken me up from my several years of OH slumber lol.

Been absolutely hooked on this show. Watched it cause it seemed interesting and cause I love Jung So-min.

Waiting for Dramabeans to hurry up and write up their recaps of ep 9 & 10. I usually read the recap before I start the next ep but this week I couldn't wait.

My thoughts after watching ep 10:

So Jin-kang actually knows that Jin-kook isn't het brother? Wth was not expecting that.

Lots of long overdue cuteness in this ep but it seems shortlived judging by the ep 11 preview. Emotional angst to return between these two, hope they don't break-up.

Also hope they aren't siblings dear god...

hey hun, wdym with OH slumber? i dont get it lol laugh.png

but still there has some secrets that she didn't know about her 'fake' brother, cause judging the way he confesses to Tak that he shot a guy with a gun, i feel like he's the one who killed mooyong's dad, i bet you think the same thing, right? lol hurrplz.png

and yeah they're super cheesy omg, luckily i watch that scene alone lol laugh.png

cause I haven't been on OneHallyu in a few years lol

yes I agree with your sentiments that Jin-kook killed Moo-young's dad. I feel this has been heavily implied by the drama, like with Jin-kook supposedly lying to Moo-young that he didn't know any police officers in Haesan despite working there.

So it looks like Jin-kook will have a lot of shit to answer for to Jin-kang and Moo-young eventually.

I reckon Mooyoung's back scars are fron the boiling kettle in his dream. He tries to rescue Jin-kang but I guess they both got burnt from it.

It's strange though, he has such great memory so how does he not remember Jin-kang seeing as they most likely met when they were young? Repressed memory?

i thought the girl in MY's drawing was jinkang? but it turn up to be his mom lol

i find its weird how come that voice of who called mooyoung in his dream could be jinkang's voice? if they met when they were young they should be showing the voice of 'younger jinkang', at least 'the kid voice' lol you know what i mean lol harharplz.png

and have you ever watch the original vers?
