About his musical

Taemin: I think that only when acting, singing and dancing are integrated perfectly together can it be called a musical. During this process, the hardest is role analysis. Shin is the crown prince, and although on the outside he appears cold, he yearns for freedom. To present this majestic kind of royalty, for someone of my age, has some difficulties. Recently I’ve been striving to improve through pronunciation exercises. While as a part of SHINee and performing during concerts, there was a lot of emphasis on performance parts, but during theatre the delivering of lines needs a lot of attention, so pronunciation is very important.

 

 

Q: In your musical “Goongâ€. even though your character was arranged to be engaged, he ended up falling for the girl and eventually proposed. Does Taemin have an ideal way to propose? Have you seen any scenes in dramas or movies which you think is a good way? 

Taemin: I would like to propose to my partner the similar way I had confessed my feelings the first time. For example, doing it on the same time of the day as the first time I confessed; giving the same present I first gave. I want to give the same feeling as my first love confession when I propose. There is this film called “The Notebookâ€, and in it the main character continuously proposes to the girl he likes. At first of course, my partner might say, “What is this?†upon seeing the situation I made, but after a while, as the familiarity sinks in, it would be something that can be wonderful and fascinating.

 

Q: 『Goong〠is a story about students. What kind of student were you?
A: I think I resemble Lee Shin from Goong a lot. When I was a student, I was also doing activities as an idol, so I was really busy to spend time in school.

 

Q: If you’re given a chance to be a student again?
A: I want to do things like going on field trips with my friends. If I’m with my classmates, any place would be nice. We’ll spend the night together and we’ll cook things together…

 

Q: You’ve become an adult recently. Did you experience any change in your feeling?
A: I think my sense of responsibility has grown stronger. Whenever I think that I’ve become an adult, I have the feeling that I’m at the age wherein I should be able to take care of things on my own.

 

Q: How did the other SHINee members react when they learned that you’ll be starring in a musical?
A: Everyone told me that I did a good job and they cheered for me. They also prayed that the musical will be a success. They also expressed their regret that they wouldn’t be able to come to the shows since they’re going to be held in Japan. Anyway, at this time they’re still worrying about a lot of things.

 

Q: Despite being SHINee’s youngest, you have a manly air about you, but what does being manly mean to you?
A: I think it is someone who is able to generously have profound understanding. He’s able to express himself, not to show force/strength, but rather to show understanding towards his partner. He’s able to show consideration and convey his feelings properly. Someone with a big heart is someone who is manly for me. I think he should be someone who is confidently reliable.

 

Q: Whenever you had problems playing the role of Lee Shin, do you try to sort things out yourself or are you the type who consults his senpai and members?
A: Whenever I feel troubled/worried, I usually think it over and continue on my own. Sometimes during hard times I talk to my friends afterwards and we try to come up with a solution together. I’ve only done this recently, though. Before I’m not really the type to talk to my friends about my worries.

 

Q: How do you lessen your stress?

A: I use food to reduce my stress. It differs from time to time (the food he eats) but I definitely eat a lot when I’m stressed.

 

Q: You’ve been a part of SHINee for six years now since you’re debut and you’ve always been so busy. If you would give yourself a reward, what would it be?
A: I wonder what…Hmm…I would love to be able to treat myself to a holiday wherein I can go on a healing trip. I want to go somewhere where I can relax and play.

 

Q: Among SHINee, there are members who also work as actors. Would you also be interested to appear in dramas and movies?
A: Right now I just want to be able to loyally portray my character in the musical. I’ll try my best first here, then afterwards if there are other opportunities… whatever genre it would be, it would be a new challenge for me. Right now, this musical is a fresh thing for me, too. I’d like to try out new things and learn from them.

 

Q: What kind of “keyword†would represent Taemin?
A: One of my favorite mottos is, “Man proposes, God disposes.†(Meaning: Man does what man can do then waits for God/fate’s work.) If possible I would like those words to be the phrase that would represent me.

 

Q: Please give a message to our readers.
A: To our fans in Japan and to everyone who loves Goong, I would try my best to be able to show you a good performance. This is my first musical and it is such a great honor for me. I would try my best to be able to unite closely with the member’s spirit and it would be nice if you would watch over me. I wish that everyone would continue to have good health and pray that everyone would always be happy. I love you all.

140515 After Musical- Taemin stuck his head out of the car window to greet. He hid his head and then stuck a hand out to wave. (Source:èœå°ç»ª_)

Taemin's voice didn't quiver. His voice didn't break. He didn't forget his lyrics. In short, it was really awesome. (Source: èœå°ç»ª_)

 

Taemin came out again at the ending. He asked everyone whether they were happy or not today and how was his perfomance etc. He used Japanese. Everyone gave an enthusiastic response. Suddenly, he spoke a sentence in Korean and the audience was stunned. There was no reaction. Thus, he switched back to Japanese. (Cr: å«é…±é…±)

 

At the ending, Taemin said "The audience on the second level, don't worry. I can see you all clearly from the stage" ♡ (Source: å«é…±é…±)

 

Lee Shin was caught by the guard when he was sneaking out of the palace. He begged and hugged the guard but the guard refused to let him go. In the end, Lee Shin kissed the guard and he finally let him off!!!! After that, the guard even asked the audience "You all are jealous of me right he he" (Cr: å«é…±é…±)
