Getting help from K.Will, Mighty Mouth’s Shorry unveiled his solo music video for Snapback Girl.

 

The music video was released on August 14, showing Shorry going on sweet dates with a girl while expressing his happiness on a colorful set, just like his upbeat and bright song. 

 

Snapback Girl was produced by Phantom’s Kiggen and written by Shorry and Rhymer. K.Will also sang for the song.

IdolsXArtists Some...The secret of invincible Starship.

 

What is common in these songs? 

 

First they are hits on the charts and on music shows. Another common factor is that they are also the works (productions) of Starship Entertainment.

 

In 2014, Starship is really powerful, sweeping the music charts. For the first half of the year from January to June they have had five major hits. Starting first with Hyolyn's Hello/Goodbye (January), then Soyou and Jung Gi Go's Some (February), followed by Mad Clown's Without You (April), Jung Gi Go's Want U (May) and K. Will's Day 1 (June). The songs are showing long term success. 

 

They are also showing great success on music programs taking 14 #1 trophies for three songs (Some, Stupid in Love, Without You-i think they mean from Starship X). If you also add the wins from Sistar and K.Will, the victories of Starship are no exaggeration. 

 

Starship Ent. started in 2008 and last year they launched an independent sub-label called Starship X. The company started revealing its artists in 2010 with Sistar, K.Will, Sistar19, Mad Clown, Jung Gi Go. With this four consecutive hits, they stood as a company (they are counting Sistar and Sistar19 as one-i think they did not include Boyfriend because they are mainly promoting in Japan). 

 

Started small. Only three employess were there when they opened the doors to Starship Entertainment. How can such a Starship emerge as the fourth agency in the music industry. An analysis of the success plus pointing three factors (for success i believe). 

 

 

"Idols like artists and..."

 

The success and strategy of Starship is having idols that are like artists (or idols with the skills/mindset of artists). First of is Sistar's Hyolyn and Soyou who have secured their positions  as artists. Last November through her first solo album, Hyolyn was recognized as a singer not just an idol that is singing and dancing. 

 

Soyou showed her attractiveness (not in terms of appearance but in terms of skills) as in singer. Her duets with Jung Gi Go (Some), Mad Clown (Stupid in Love) and Hong Dae Kwang (Goodbye My Love) earned her the title/image as a "singer who sings well." With her sexy yet powerful voice, her recognition is also rising. 

 

Jung Gi Go and Mad Clown are different. Although they are different than Starship idol artists because they are both from the underground. However through Starship productions they were able to help them rise by giving them full support in visuals, broadcast (getting them on shows) etc. 

 

Seo Hyun Ju, a director at Starship said that the focus is on idols in the music industry and while idols will not go away, it is so focused on idols and that left a gap to be filled by artists who are like idols (i guess people like Jung Gi Go-not really idols but can fit in with them-not sure what he/she means).

 

Hence the term: Idol artists, Artist Idols

Idol Artists= would be Soyou/Hyorin who are idols but can perfrom or fit in as artists.

Artist Idols= Jung Gi Go, Mad Clown, K.Will who are artists but can still give off the feel of an idol.

 

Not sure if that makes sense.

 

 

 

 

 

Starship&StarshipX, Clever Symbiosis

 

Starship Ent., now has K.Will, Sistar and Boyfriend. StarshipX has Mad Clown and Jung Gi Go (Joo Young and NuBoyz aren't included becasue they haven't debuted yet i believe). The label was established to build and broaden the music spectrum that would not affect the success of Sistar and K.Will (so bascially allowing for a different musical color). 

 

To put it simply, it is Starship and StarshipX clever symbiosis. The StarshipX projects are noteworthy in that they have all become hits showcasing great musical harmony (SoyouXMadClown Stupid in Love, SoyouXJungGiGo Some and JungGiGoXBeenzino Want U). 

 

This also means that Starship has broken the mold of idol agencies. The destruction of age limits and career restrictions (most idols are teens and are molded by the company while MadC and JungGiGo are hitting 30 and above 30 and already started careers outside of the company).  Recently StarshipX has expanded to include underground vocalist Joo Young. 

 

Starship officials said they were simply trying to grow/build the company a step up and did not expect such success (especially with Some) and is positively looking forward to more synergies (collaborations basically). 

 

 

"Customised production, storytelling"

 

The last part is things we know. How they go about making a production;

1. Determine what the public wants

2. Get a concept for that

3. Start production

 

They used Touch My Body as an example.

Yes they do need a break. In terms of who is coming back next i am guessing Joo Young StarshipX debut with either Soyou/Hyorin at the end of or mid-September like Stupid in Love (although i wish it would be Bora rapping A La Yoon Mirae style) then after maybe Jung Gi Go with his album, then Nu Boyz digital single and last a Boyfriend mini (they said they might be back in the second half of the year) and finally a Starship/X family christmas song with maybe a hyolyn/soyou OST in the mix somewhere.
