Gfriend 1st Japanese Album weekly sales is 13k+ albums.

This is far from BlackPink Japanese album first week at 30k+ albums sold and Twice first week at 130k+ albums sold

Gfriend music is actually very Jpop compare to Twice and BlackPink album.

But why Gfriend 1st Japanese Album is Unperformed at Japanese Market?

Because GFriend's from a nugu company and their Japanese fanbase or general hype/interest in Japan is not as high as it was a few years back. Their music might have a jpop vibe but Japanese people can listen to actual jpop for that matter so yeah I don't think the jpop vibe of their songs has much impact on anything. I think they're doing fine considering the circumstances actually.

People need to remember that they are from a small/nugu company with a small international fanbase. So to compare them to the big 3 groups is basically not realistic because those groups naturally have more fan support internationally. Plus, the big 3 brand helps. GFriend is basically starting from zero again and that's fine.

In the japanese market big 3 groups use to do much better. Anyway, it's not bad at all, i think their sales are going to be similar to Apink's or AOA's, so it's ok, they don't need to sell 100k albums to be fine.

what are the sales for apink/aoa?

Christ. Can we stop this notion that Gfriend songs sound like j-pop. What makes them japanese? because they have guitars in their songs?

No. Gfriend and Soumu cater their music to Koreans first and foremost, no trendy western edm beats or anything. They are closer to 2008 SNSD more than anything else.

They release it too late .. They should release it after Navillera era .. Their popularity is not really high like before right now ..

true, during that time their popularity was at a peak, soumu missed a chance and put too long of a hiatus during that gap between navillera and fingertip

Why do kpop fans expect all these cutesy/girl next door type group to do well in Japan just bc of their concept when there are 829729202x groups in japan doing the same thing except they can speak japanese, and are Japanese

tbh

The reason why groups like TWICE and BP do well there is because they have what fangirls love, they are pretty and have nice fashion to look forward to and buy magazines (inspire to be like), school uniforms are just normal in Japan.

Also, don't forget that before Twice and BP debuted there they used 2PM and Big Bang for mediaplay as their juniors, people ofc would at least check them out, Gfriend is going there with their own name and 13k is good enough considering everything.

The girls said themselves that they're going to start from scratch in japan, just like their debut. So obviously their sales aren't going to explode just like that lol.Adding to the fact that half of the songs in the album are in korean.

that really isn't an excuse since BP and TWICE debuted with the same exact type of album (just look at their tracklist)

I believe they can pull a T-ara in Japan if they work hard to promote there, step by step

1. They don't have a big company.

2. They waited too long to debut. 2016 was their year.

3. Their "J-Pop" sound really isn't a factor here.

4. 13,000 isn't all that bad. It isn't impressive but it's not bad either. I believe with enough time they can sell around 30,000 ~ 60,000 each album. Which isn't that bad.

simple  BC they dont have a foreigner

Kara didn't have a "foreigner" either yet they slayed Japan, that's not an excuse.

I didn't know that Gfriend already debuted there which means that the promo itself was lacking. I only heard about Umji being a model for some magazine. 13k isn't bad actually for a non Big 3 group.

i don't understand, i saw on twitter, gfriend had quite some hi touch/handshake events to promote this album though, how can it not reflect on the sales. it is underperforming for sure. i think they should just stay in korea and focus on group/solo activities instead.

they are just starting tho and that's pretty good start considering it's an album and they have No senior group nor big agency to do massive promote, they will improve.

instant success can't be applied for anyone ya know, they are the type of group that climb from the bottom.

from what i know the event is kind of free event so it can't be reflected on album sales except the impact after the event contributed in the sales, and that's a pretty good start.
