Usually i only post an album if the artist only has one album, but in Dominique Tsai's case, this is the only album i like from her. I like it a lot and thought it was worth sharing so this week is pretty much just to show this album to people.

Dominique Tsai Wrap-up

Not that long ago there was a recommendation thread here in the C-section asking for cpop albums that people found to be must-listens. I gave a few albums such as S.H.E's SHERO, Waa Wei's No Crying, and i also listed Dominique Tsai's Black Rainbow. I think it's a really solid album that people should listen to whether they are cpop fans or not. It's a good mix of pop songs and slow songs and I think he singing has improved a lot from her earlier albums.

When I found her I read people saying that her older material is better, which i completely disagree with. There is actually a part of her bio from last.fm that i cut out that says, "Known for her raspy voice and R&B/pop-rock fusings, she has a dedicated following." I took it out because i'm only using Black Rainbow for this thread. Her earlier two albums are rock-ish type albums whereas Black Rainbow is very different. I listen to a rock in a few different languages so i'm fine with rock, but i just did not like her style of it. I don't think her voice fits that style and like i said her singing has improved a lot since then. Listen to a song and judge for yourselves HERE. Her voice in that chorus...

I think what people were saying is that now she's like everybody else when she used to be different. First of all i don't think her old stuff was very different/unique and it wasn't good so the change was for the better. I really wish she would release something new but it's been a while so it probably won't happen. Sigh...whatever enjoy this album!

Short writeup because this thread was super last minute and i don't know what else to say.   :ohbi:    :ohla:

Yeah she's great. Black rainbow's sound is what made me into a fan, 雨éŽå¾Œçš„風景 Landscape After the Rain is so good. I think it sold quite poorly in tw so I guess that's why she hasn't followed it up yet but I'm still hoping she will be more active in the future.

About her older music, she's still got some nice songs from that era so to speak and I think it is a unique style she has when she sings those rockier type songs. I like 孔雀 and 有你很快樂 especially.
