Solo bombs at the box office, the fans strike back ;)

"Solo: A Star Wars Story’s four-day weekend numbers are pretty grim. The movie brought in $103 million domestically, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That’s less than analysts’ predictions last week, which estimated the movie would gross anywhere between $130 and $140 million.

Solo also underperformed overseas. The film pulled in $168 million globally, which is far less than analysts’ expectations. Solo was expected to produce $300 million internationally. To compare, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm’s first stand-alone spinoff anthology film, made $155 million domestically when it first opened in December 2016."

We are officially living in an era when a Star Wars movie flops. These numbers might seem astronomical to some, but it is a bomb when it comes to the biggest franchise in the world. I've been witnessing how everything went downhill so let me explain how this happened.

-Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm wears a shirt that says "The force is female"

-The Last Jedi kills Luke Skywalker's legend, it is horrible, the fans want an apology or an answer WHY

-TLJ's producer and writer Rian Johnson says, he doesn't care about what fans think, he wanted to do HIS OWN story. Calls fans names, keeps on trolling them on twitter.

-JJ Abrams is back, gets to write and produce Ep. IX (because surprise, KK fires Colin Trevorrow), who calls fans bigots, sexists, racists, homophobes

-Lucasfilm associates call fans overweight, white dudes who live in their mom's basements

-Fans had enough, asked Disney to do something about KK, #BoycotteSolo is standing on strong legs

-KK and associates getting their shorts browned but are still mediaplaying and egging the fans on

That's what you get if you put bs politics in our SW, try to divide people and proceed to be arrogant about it because you think we will watch everything if you put a SW label on it. SW is not about age, gender, race or sexuality, so you'd terribly miscalculated.

This woman should not be a president, maybe at his local MCDonald's, but I think even that would be too much to handle. She keeps on firing and hiring people. She fired Solo's producers when the movie was 70% finished filming. Something similar happened to Rogue One too. She doesn't know what she is doing, Disney needs to step in! They have 4 billion on the line. So anyway, I hope I can say bye to her in a few months.

Oh, hey, I almost forgot a Boba Fett movie is coming soon! I cannot wait for the Ewok and Porg movies!

The guy they picked for Han Solo doesn't have the charisma (or looks tbh) of a young Harrison Ford. That was their mistake to begin with.

The fans wanted Anthony Ingruber but KK was like "nah" and hired Alden, the very first person who auditioned for Solo. He is really handsome but he has a really chill and almost dull personality in real life that comes through the screen. He is talented but yeah, has no charisma.

I have yet to watch a Star Wars movie..even though I love SciFi. rlytearpls.png

Start with the original trilogy if you want the best SW experience. They are now ep. 4(IV), 5 (V) and 6 (VI). A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

It doesn't seem that bad imo. A Han Solo spinoff is never going to make as much as a full Star Wars movie.

It should make about 1 billion, every SW movie should. That's what Disney wants but it will probably end up earning 600 million in total. Just so you see. It is the most expensive SW movie ever! The budget was around 250+ million and the full cost winds up to roughly 500 million. If the 600 million projection is right, the movie will earn 100 million and Lucasfilm+Disney have to divide it too. They are definitely not happy.

I watched it on Friday cause my little brother wanted to see it. it was OK. It seems like they were setting up for a trilogy or at least it looked like there will be a sequel, if it is flopping maybe not then lol.

Yep, Alden is signed for 3 movies.

Star Wars is no longer the biggest franchise......MCU is

You are right if we are talking about purely money but will the MCU be just as massive and relevant after 40 years as SW is? SW's legacy still is just too great imo. Also, yes, I love Marvel and Kevin Feige should teach a fellow president, Mrs. KK how to treat fans.

Everything after Revenge of the Sith have been shit so those numbers do not surprise me

I actually loved Rogue One.

Just six months after the last SW movie.

But we could say the same about Black Panther and Infinity War. Both did amazing, IW better than amazing. It is NOT Star Wars fatigue but majority of the SW fanbase is boycotting the movie. I don't even know why I even wasted my time writing the op.

Not sure about other countries but personally I didn't even know this movie was coming out at all? Promotion wise something could have gone better too. Anyway nobody really asked for this solo spinoff and the last star wars movie didn't live up to the hype so it kinda was to be expected for this movie to do not that well

Fans are being kind of dumb rn with boycotting the film but I agree they should fire, but fans do need to chill for a bit, especially who they wanted to play Han. He may look like Harrison Ford but hes not a good actor. I thought it was good and the guy who played Han is actually a good actor. I thought it was better than TLJ.

Also tbh Star Wars was never that amazing.

considering all the neckbeards portion of the fandom that REEEE-ed about the focus on more female or minority in SW, or have issue with producer wearing a fucking shirt, this is hilarious.

Anyway if SW fail, it's likely that the franchise is no longer hyped to the general public...but sure something something SJWs, or """politics"""

Eh, it was okay. For some reason it felt like such a long movie, I was getting tired of it half way through.

I will agree with another poster, the action scenes were pretty well done. The last 20 mins or so are the best parts; all the double crossing that happened, lol.

Now I have time to answer you, it might be long. Bear with me but you called for it.

Why is the problem with the shirt being downplayed here? What if Lucas wore a shirt that said "The force is male", oh, it is sexist..I seeimhappyplz.png Also, she is not a producer but the president of Lucasfilm

The first article you sent me, that was actually an attempt to troll Rian, JJ and Kathleen Kennedy. They cut out a huge chunk of the movie to prove nothing changes story wise and how bad the female characters are. Kathleen is obsessed with feminism and female characters so..I know it is hard to understand that WE have NO problem with female characters, the way they are written is just shit and that's the problem. I ask you to tell me 1 single female character from the Disney SW era who is memorable, relatable and amazing. The only one who interests me is Jyn. I have issues with the male characters tbh. I don't see any point of Hux, Finn or Poe. I love Kylo because 1, he is played by the amazingly talented Adam Driver and 2, he is a legacy character.

I think you don't follow SW close because you would know Ashoka Tano (a female jedi) is one of the most popular characters in SW, also Luke's wife in Legends, Mara who is not canon anymore, sadly. Not talking about one of the most iconic and beloved women in cinematic history, Leia. Everyone adores her and she was written by a man in the 1970s. She is a kickass, saves Luke and Han, can hold her own and commands over men.

Kathleen is running her mouth about strong and independent women, that we can't relate to Luke and proceeds to green light bs characters like Holdo, Rey or Rose. Goes on about "diversity" but makes fun of Poe and Finn, turns Hux into a crybaby general and Luke into a green titty milk sipping perverted old fart. I am sorry but what does Holdo actually do in TLJ? Ridicules Poe, keeps the plan from everyone, that's why almost all of the Resistance dies and then kamikazes into Snoke's ship. I don't really have patience to talk about other characters but at least we know Lando f!cks droids, right? Because LGBT representation harharplz.png

Right?

I am not a hardcore fan of the series but I would have actually seen this movie had the lead actor appealed to me. The Rogue One spin off was an amazing movie and advertised well and the trailers drew me in, something this movie lacked.

I would have loved to see Bill Skarsgard or Daniel Sharman for this role.

People boycotting it are being extra as heck. Its an enjoyable movie tbh. I only had two problems with it... The lighting was so dark and muted sometimes that I was straining my eyes to see anything and that cameo at the end. Girl, I aint watching the tv shows to have that cameo make sense. No thanks.
