WINNER's Kang Seungyoon reveals why he searches for hate comments about himself

Recommended Posts

WINNER’s Kang Seung Yoon has shared that he intentionally seeks out hate comments about himself.

The idol appeared as a guest on the May 27 episode of tvN’s talk show “Secret Garden,†where he confessed that he purposely looked for hate comments on articles written about him. “I keep reading malicious comments [about myself],†said Kang Seung Yoon. “I actually look for them. To be honest, there haven’t been that many of them recently. So I dig through all the comments to see whether there are any [hateful ones] or not, and I look for them and read them.â€

Host Jung Hyung Don asked in confusion, “Why do you do that? Why would you go out of your way to give yourself stress?â€

Kang Seung Yoon replied, “I really hate [reading malicious comments]. They break my heart and truly hurt my feelings, and I dislike them. But nowadays, there are less people who judge and criticize me, and one day, I suddenly realized that I had gotten too comfortable. I had started thinking, ‘I can just keep doing things the way I am now.’ That made me uneasy.â€

He went on, “I think it’s a really double-sided aspect of my psyche. On one hand, I really don’t want to hear [people’s hate], but then I find myself wondering, ‘Why aren’t there more [hate comments]?’ I wonder, ‘Am I really doing a good job?’ and yet I feel nervous.â€

Jung Hyung Don responded by jokingly suggesting that Kang Seung Yoon cause a scandal of some kind. Fortunately, the other hosts were quick to shoot down his idea.

Actually fans already know about this he revealed that himself before but I really hope he drops this habit tbh. I kinda understand why he's doing it as he's someone who constantly wants to improve and that's his way of keeping himself in check since his loved ones might not tell him the truth and over praise him BUT there's a clear difference between constructive criticisms and hateful comments and the latter is sadly more common. More often than not the comments are just hateful posts coming from antis and trolls and it's only going to wreck his confidence and self esteem in the long run. Really hope he can find a way to stay critical about himself w/o having to constantly look for hate comments.

The thought of him searching for hate comments really breaks my heart and makes me feel uneasy for him. I hope he can find another way to find more constructive helpful criticism than from netizens, they can be so poisonous.

I hope someone older in the company can advise him now that he has made this more open to others. I also hate the thought of Winner's antis targeting him now that he has made this more public than just the fandom unsure.png

Hate comments don't just happen because people wake up one day and decided "Today I want to write hate comments".

Hate comments are triggered when something shocking happens, example if the idols are being a klutz (clumsy, undecided, unprepared).

Example if the idols are undecided "Should I go left or should I go right?" after taking photos at end year events, and it causes traffic jam (lol), and the public goes like "Just go whatever direction, but just get out of there ! "

It is kinda a response, like if you are there at the scene, you will say it even if you don't notice it.

It is not really like hate comments, but like criticism of everyday life that you often give to your friends when you feel "What are they doing?".

_______

Meaning, if the idols know their whole team is kinda clumsy, unprepared, undecided, they will know some criticism will exist somewhere in the net.

_______

But if the idols know that their whole team is always prepared, professional (like Winner) then there is no point searching for hate comments because there will be none.

_______

Since Winner is already prepared and professional, all 4 boys cannot get any sort of criticism in this lifetime, not if they just stay in their own group.

If Winner want to get criticism, they need to start making a unit group with a rookie idol/ going to a variety show with a rookie group. Kinda like Nu'est Jonghyun tries to teach Kwon Hyunbin, but there is also criticism on how Jonghyun is teaching Hyunbin. I mean usually the innocent teacher also got blamed if the students did wrong lmao.

I mean Winner should try to collaborate with rookies in the industries nowadays, like IN2IT, The Boyz, Golden Child, kids that is just sprouting. Kids that is becoming the aim of the public that is saying "Meh, is this their performance? Why are they at Dream Concert?"

I mean comments don't generate when a group is already perfect. So Winner needs to actually go visit groups that is sprouting and gives some advice, because these kids have no idea what they are doing (the rookies) and it will generate some comments, if that is what Winner Seungyoon is looking for.

I mean, when you guys watch rookies performance, don't you guys feels "Tsk, tsk, this is so sad. They look so nervous lol", and "It is okay, they can improve years to come. They are just rookies". Or when they rookies appear in variety and basically no one in the group even talks "Tsk tsk, kinda sad " TT

Well those professionals have a chance to help them. I bet the public will love that. But then they will also be people saying "I only want to see the professional idols, cut the rookies scene". Or people saying "Actually the professional and rookies should get equal scene and talk time". And another people saying "Are you guys dumb, the rookies are not even speaking, how to even air equal talk time?"

I mean things like this seems fresh ideas, rather than those TV shows where professional MC talk to professional idols, and they talk about non-existing problems, because all of them are already professionals lol. I mean it is okay, but there should be new ideas too, so that fans can look forward to new ideas.

Sorry for typing so long, it is just that I am thinking of ways an idol can generate comments, and just wrote what I think can help   (but setting up a new adventure).

Not really. Hate comments (as the name suggests) mainly comes from ‘hate’. An idol doesn’t necessarily have to slip up (by saying/doing something) to get hated upon. Just by existing and being successful can attract hate comments especially from antis.
