What do you think?

If people want to find content, they will. I think JPop fans and KPop fans have very different mindsets. JPop fans aren't really competitive because the industry isn't competitive. There's more pure enjoyment. KPop fans are very competitive because the industry is very competitive. This leads to a lot of drama, which JPop fans don't really want. But a lot of KPop fans love drama and comparing.

I still like having subbed content and acknowledgement from my faves

Why do you need acknowledgement though?

As far as subbed content, it's out there, if you follow an act that has a fanbase that is willing to do the work.

The companies won't do the work because this content is only meant for Japanese people. It's not like KPop, which needs the international audience because there is more supply than demand.

How BlackPink can sold 80k in Japan and do Arena tour with out much promotion from YG? ..... Youtube.

BlackPink probably can do full world tour in Asia, America or Europe because of Youtube but YG is just stupid.

Some niche fans talking about youtube view records is just bonus.

i mean i guess but they lose potential fans cause a lot of people from outside are not able to watch their stuff and they dont bother to look further than yt aka me lmao

I will write my comment as a former Hyphen:

If someone is a real fan then he / she always can find a way to watch it. Just you have to put some effort.

I was Kat-tun's fan since 2010 and I always found a way to watch their MVs and other videos even with english and russian subs. I always was able to read their countless interviews, even blog posts. My boyfriend is an anime fan since 2001 and he always found whatever video he wanted to watch. He even learnt japanese to a fluent level.

In K-pop people always receive things easily, cos let's be honest, Korean music market is too small so needs some foreign investment. K-POP even ready to westernize itself to be more acceptable in western markets. And I don't claim it wrong. (Just let's please not think westernizing = globalizing) But J-pop don't need our money, they just want the genuine, sincere interest of us. They don't need some bored people who just want to be entertained without much effort, but they want fans who are willing to spend their time to research, who are willing to understand and to accept their culture, which is sometimes strange and weird for foreigners.

K-pop being more popular than J-pop never was an issue for Japanese fans. It always was an issue for foreign fans. Cos it's always foreign fans who try to compare K-pop and J-pop. It's only foreign fans who always think that their interest is essential for J-pop's well being. But guys, I think you're wrong.

i'm a fan of jpop artists and kpop artists. the approach is different, so the mentality of the fans is different. that is common sense.

i don't like to compare because then jpop fans get haughty about being the second biggest music market, and how kpop artists go there for money, and kpop fans talk about the international market and "western validation" and how they "know their faves bc of vapp"

i don't like these topics. it's just an endless circle.

but thats the... thing tho, im not a real fan of anyone in Jpop, im not into anyone, im talking about the fact that the accessibility its limited so sometimes its not that easy to find their stuff if you are not familiar with it, so my interest is lost pretty quickly

Regardless, it'd be nice NOT to have to jump through a bunch of hoops just to get access to some music. The business practices used by the Japanese companies are super anti-consumer and really shouldn't be something people should be in support of. It doesn't help anyone besides the companies.

If international fans really have big interest with Jpop they can search and find Jpop content.

But Jpop is outdated and not a trend anymore, international fans prefer Kpop more and the easy access of Kpop made them stay and enjoy it more. Some niche international fans still like Jpop but huge portion of it already part of Kpop fandom. Any Kpop groups who promote well on youtube can easily hold concert tour in any country compare to the most famous Jpop groups.

That's the fun of it though! You get to discover things for yourself and see where that leads you!

I never got the outdated thing. It's outdated because it's not a copy of current popular Western sounds?

Basically you're saying KPop is liked because it's easily digestable and accessible. But not everyone is into that. And let's be real, KPop has a poor retention rate for fans.

The thing is though is that KPop needs the world to to compete with Japan, while Japan just needs Japan.

Yeah it's cool and all that Japan's music industry can survive on its own and doesn't need the rest of the world... But come on. It's 2018. Isolationism is stupid. I've actually been seeing more Japanese music available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, etc and I'm super happy about that.

Can't believe you still on the same bullshhhiet after all these years. Y'all really tried to say K-pop was gonna be forgotten after 2nd gen group's popularity died in Japan and America yet BTS and Twice are currently killing it.

Without a doubt thanks to YouTube lmao

This ^

I keep seeing people say that Jpop is outdated, but in what way?

I even made a thread and nobody responded but JPop fans saying that basically it's the fact that JPop does cave into current Western trends.

But how is this

any more current than this

?

The thing is though is that it was never really that isolated...

The 2nd generation fans have been replaced by new fans so let's not act as if there was some continuity here.

KPop is niche in Japan. When did I ever talk about the US?

You've been a fan for a long time... Don't tell me you don't remember the days of slow internet downloads and paying ridiculous shipping costs for imported albums. It used to not be as accessible as it has gotten since the smartphone age. A majority of people are actually really computer illiterate even people younger than me. Much less are they able to discover stuff through ridiculous web searches and such lol.
