Hi! Choyeon was my one-pick during PD48, so I'm happy we can finally see her again. I couldn't find any translations of the video above, so I decided to make one myself. There are probably mistakes, because it's my first time translating just from hearing and English and Korean are not my native languages, so sorry about that   If you see any errors, feel free to point them out! It took me almost six hours to finish (so one minute of her talking=one hour of me trying to make sense of it lol those are some pathetic stats   I need to get better), so I don't know if/when I'll be able to translate more if there is more content, but for now, enjoy!

 

 

Hello, I'm Kim Choyeon, 18-year-old trainee under A Team Entertaiment! We're beginning YSSCOM Q&A Interview!

 

Q: Why do you want to be a singer?

 

Originally I was tone deaf, bad dancer and had no sense of rythm, but because of my friend's recommendation I ended up going to to cram school, I had a chance to audition, and I gradually and naturally started to dream about becoming a singer.

 

Q: What do you pay attention to when you're doing your make-up? (what's the special point)

 

I think it's shade of lips. Because every weather has its scent, and if you smell that scent, different colors fit it, so I almost always use different shades.

 

Q: What is your charming point?

 

First, my bright smile through which I can make people happy, and how friendly/sociable I am.

 

Q: Is there a singer/role model you look up to?

 

I talked on broadcast about wanting to be like Chungha sunbaenim whom I really respect, and also lately I fell in love with a song called New Rules, so I started to like foreign artist Dua Lipa sunbaenim.

 

Q: Your dancing is really good, how long have you been practicing?

 

Formally I started when I started attending cram school, so it's been 7 years, but before that I was a member of (?) school club and learned there a lot, so together it's been more or less 11 years.

 

Q: Which country do you want to visit the most and what do you want to do there?

 

I want to visit Japan the most. My dream is to go there and meet all Japanese unnies and friends I made during Produce48 filming, and go with them to Disneyland.

 

Q: You have a lot of personal talents, is there one you're developing now?

 

Lately I've been developing seafood dance. First, seaweed dance and second, sea horse dance.

Q: Trainee's life is exhausting, what's the best way to overcome it?

 

I was alone in the dorm, so while moving there I just cried while listening to sad songs. I ended up crying for a bit (?), and that's how I dealt with that.

 

Q: You're going to Hanlim Art School, were there other trainees you knew or were close to before going to PD48?

 

First, Starship Jo Gahyun who used to train with me 7 years ago, and MNH Lee Haeun whom I knew before entering A Team Entertaiment , and WM Cho Yeongin with whom I went to the same school.

 

Q: You're still a student, isn't it hard to be a student and a trainee at the same time?

 

Because I want to be both a good student and a good trainee, it's still not that hard for me.

 

Q: Is there a nickname your friends use for you?

 

Friends from the company and school call me 초초 (ChoCho), I still don't really know why, but I like it.

 

Q: Friends from Produce 48?

 

Everyone was nice, but I was close to my VeryVeryVery and Handclap teams. My foreign friends were Goto Moe, Takeuchi Miyu unnie and Shitao Miu, and Korean friends - Yujin unnie, Eunchae unnie, Minseo, Gahyun unnie, Haeun, Haeyoon unnie.

 

Q: What was the reaction of your family and friends after PD48?

 

Before the broadcast, I  actually kept it a secret, I didn't tell my friends or family... No, my family knew, but friends didn't. So after the broadcast they were surprised and they complimented me a lot and told me I'm the best.

 

Q: Did your Japanese get better after PD48?

 

When I was studying Japanese alone, I often had worries like'oh, how should I write it?', but when we were filming, Japanese unnies and friends helped me a lot, so I think it got a lot better.

 

Q: The most regretful part of PD48?

 

After having black hair I decided to change the style and dyed it red, and now I receive a lot of good comments, so I have this regret like 'wouldn't more people have loved me if I had had this style since the beginning?', but it seems like black hair also gave me more personality, so I don't regret it.

 

Q: What was the song you wanted to do during PD48?

 

Unfortunatelly I was eliminated, but I really wanted to perform Rumor. When I was practicing Rumor, I often heard that it suits me well and it seems like the dance style was similiar to mine. I can show you a bit.

Q: Please say a word to fans who are waiting for your debut!

 

(not exactly sure, but something about how it's a pity she couldn't showcase all her charms during PD48) I will practice hard to be able to quickly stand on stage and show you more of my charm and talent. Until then please wait a bit more and support me! I love you!

Edit: A Team's boy group VAV will have a comeback on October 15th. If there is one reason I'm happy that Choyeon is in A Team it's that it looks like they don't give up on their groups. VAV is not exactly popular, but they didn't disband or went on long hiatus, instead they had a lot of comebacks, MVs, dance practices, covers, events, Vlives, variety clips with English subs... Hope Choyeon's group will get the same treatment once they debut.

*t/n: It's a pun on her name, in Korean one of the meanings of 'choyeonhada' is undisturbed/aloof/detached, and fun fuct, 'choyeon' itself means premiere/debut (lol let's hope it's a good sign for the future). But keep in mind it's probably not what her name actually means, it's most likely composed of Hanja characters with different meaning.

I'm so excited for Choyeon debut 

 

Me too! We'll probably still have to wait a bit longer, Ateam's boy group is having a comeback soon and I don't think they're going to debut another group during that time, but at least we know something's happening. But why haven't the company announce anything about the schedule in Malaysia... There needs to be more hype about them! Maybe they don't want to reveal other trainees yet?
