I found this in a forum I am a member of:

Here's the scenario.

Somehow, a charismatic political genius manages to overthrow the elected government of your country in a bloodless coup. They rapidly assert their authority, removing all democratic officials and replacing them with competent, hand-picked experts that are far more efficient. This dictator effectively rules by decree and is answerable to no one.

However, they fully support and endorse your particular political beliefs (apart from anything involving democratic government, of course). If you're in favor of policy x, they will enforce it, regardless of popular opinion on the matter, and suppress any complaints.

Essentially anything you want to be done politically right now will get done and any objectors will be scared into silence, arrested or executed. The dictatorship will magically never become corrupt or self-serving, and will always put the welfare of its citizens first - unless, of course, the ungrateful masses complain or hold political beliefs different to your own.

Would you support a system like this?

Personally, I'd support such a dictatorship. However, it would be even better if the dictator, having done everything he could to improve everything in the country, eventually restored democracy - preferably, direct democracy.

True.

When the democracy was forced on Russians, people realized that they lived better during Soviet Union period. Many citizens still feel nostalgic of that period. That is a matter of a serious discussion though.

I would certainly support it.

Only ignorant people think democracy suit all countries as a supreme form of state. Too many different countries with different mentalities.

Dictatorship and Democracies are basically two different political systems, nothing to do with which is better. Same with Monarchies. People are separated by A monarch or a democracy, but the reality is, its possible to have both, its called constitutional monarchy. Its been done in history and its been successful and tens of millions have been benefited by it, such as Poland, Japan, Denmark, Thailand and Great Britain. England became a constitutional monarchy by accident and is still ballin and bossin for centuries. Same goes for Sweden, Japan, Denmark and Norway.

Some absolute monarchies are still successful and relevant such as Brunei, UAE and Saudi Arabia (sans Christian persecution).

Both Democracies can be just as messed up and crappy as a dictatorship. And sometimes what the people want/think is best for the country =/= best for country/what the country needs. Democracy can end up and usually ends up being an abuse of freedom and Dictatorship also is a an abuse of responsibility. Freedom of choice and voice can be used irresponsibly. I dont side on which System. As long as the government is good, kind and righteous, then Ill be happy.

No because dictatorships may sound good on paper but in practice never works. Human are flawed and greed & corruption will take over. Not saying democracy doesn't have that it does in large degrees. Least you have some rights and some freedom of speech which in the USA people are losing day by day thanks to patriot and NDAA acts that have be imposed. Though think this quote somes it up nicely"Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."-Winston Churchill

IKR. I dont care what kind of government I live in, whether I have a say or not. As long as the government is kind, good and righteous then Im down with that. People who think that democracy is the only legitimate system and think nothing good comes from a monarchy/dictatorship needs to be educated. The same goes for people who think that capitalism is the only way. OMG if it works then it works.

No, never in a million years. I value freedom over political expediency, and find that political debate leads to better ideas. There is no way I am willing to trade the freedom to disagree with and object to government actions, whether those complaints come from me or anyone else, for anything. Even if I get everything that I want, I do not want a system that crushes those who disagree.

Nope.  Just the fact of giving someone absolute authority over everyone else is a no no for me. I don't believe such a political system will be able to maintain peace and order for people.  Even if we are being ruled under a benevolent "dictator".

To the people that voted yes has your country even been under such a regime? Mine has and we suffered so much and we had to fight to make the bastard stop making us miserable.

Don't talk about what you don't know.

Exactly.

I've had the luck of not having to experience it, while my parents and grandparents weren't so lucky, but the side effects of the fascist regime are still felt nowadays.

It can really put a country back and stop it's development. There is no such thing as a perfect regime, but nothing good can come from a dictatorship.

What annoys me so fucking much is show people are like well at least at that time we were rich and I'm just like are you fucking serious? And they were my age I was just mindfucked.

I'm not even sure what's the point of the country being rich when the people are poor and get locked up just for looking/acting suspicious.
