Do you think you can get ‘too old’ to be in fandom?

I say this after a conversation with my parents. I said to them I’d like for my holiday this year to be to Seoul, which was fine, until I mentioned timing it around Wanna One’s final concert.

I’ll be 22 at the time it happens, and I spend maybe £50 every couple of months on fandom related things (advantages of Wanna One/Monsta X being the only active groups I stan), but I get told more and more often to grow up.

SO yeah idk. What are your thoughts?

First of all: 22 y.o is not being too old to be in a fandom. The ideal age to be in a fandom is during our twenties because often we still live at our parent's home and only have money to spend on hobbies and extra. You are at the golden age!

Second, no I don't think we can be too old to be in a fandom. Obviously it's always a little bit weird to see someone who's 40 y.o at a kpop concert but in my opinion we are never too old to enjoy something and if being in a fandom makes us happy then why stopping because "i am too old"?

Also, I think that people often forget that fandoms are not only being a teenage fan of an artists who target teenagers. My best example is Johnny Hallyday's fans (you may have heard of him, he's a legend of french rock and died a few months ago so some news channel talked about him). Most of them are between 40 and 70, there's younger fans of course, but most of his fans are older and they are soo extra, young fangirls can only dream to be at that level (some of them tattooed his face on their body and honestly... it's not a fandom but a CULTURE). They are happy being dedicated to the singer they like and that's the most important! Of course there's always people who will mock them but there's people to mock everything so... Most people don't think that they are too old, because they stan an artist who has around their age and didn't target teenagers anymore.

Personally I'm a fangirl since I was 5 y.o and I'm really into a fandom since I was 13/14 (because I didn't have twitter before so I couldn't share my passion and be really in a fandom). I'm now 20 y.o, I'm still in a fandom and I know that I'll probably never stop being in a fandom unless life don't allow me anymore. But I'll keep buying albums, buying the most expensives concert tickets  and tlaking about my idols everyday. Because that's what makes me happy and that's who I am and even at 60 y.o I won't stop just because people think I'm "too old". Telling someone that they are too old to be in a fandom is like telling a soccer supporter that they are too old to be a supporter: it doesn't make sense

I feel you. I am 23 and sometimes I wonder for myself if I'm not too old for this lol. But then I get reminded that this stuff actually makes me happy so who cares? (Also, we could be addicted the drugs or sth which is worse... right?)

Haha! I said this to my mum, too. I could spend all my money on heroin, but travelling to cool places to see groups? Way better.

There's all sorts of older people in fandoms who do stuff like a Harry Potter themed wedding, naming their kids after their favorite band members, etc. So I don't get why kpop is any different, you should feel free to enjoy stuff no matter how old you are.
