What kind of video do you think EXO will be having this comeback?

So the thing is SM entertainment often tends to share music video directors among its groups.

Full Fanmade List

 

In 2015, All pathcodes and CMB ,LMR and Sing For You were directed by VM Project. They also directed all of Taemin and Shinee's 2015 stuff, RV Dumb Dumb and F(x) 4 walls.

 

In 2016, The director for all RV music videos was from VM Project, VM Project also directed Monster and Lotto by EXO and NCT the 7th sense.

In 2017,

NCT Limitless was directed by Flexible Pictures, who had also directed Hey mama by CBX .

They then directed Kokobop.

The directors of SJ LoSiento and Boa Nega Dola are not known, but they seem to be directed by the same people.

 

To know about EXO though, it is best to take hints from RV, NCT and SHINee.

 

Bad Boy was directed by the Kokobop people (Flexible Pictures)

CBX Blooming Day was directed by VM project again. (the only SM video they have directed this year so far.)

The NCT Empathy comeback videos were directed by people from GDW production house, who also directed some BTS 2017 videos

I am unable to find who directed SHINee's comebacks... but  I have a feeling Good Evening was by the same people who directed NCT's Yestoday (or maybe they used the same set  to shoot it)- Daniel Jon

 

 

There is also another new name director - Jinooya 

He directed NCT Dream Go and Ten's New heroes.

 

I was unable to find who directed Red Velvet's Power Up. 

 

Another thing to note: SM has never to my knowledge shared an MV director with JYP entertainment. However, VM Project have directed videos for acts from YG - IKON, WINNER and Blackpink Whistle.

 

Looking through the catalogue, I was surprised to find so many videos which I thought were by the same people, came from different directors.

Maybe the thing in common is not the directors, but the stylists and art and set designers.

 

Personally, I feel VM Project are awesome but overused in kpop now.

 

This year, with EXO, I would love to see Daniel Jon (they have a nice sense of camera perspective )

 

 

or ETUI (I love their graphics and colors)

i wouldnt mind the fantazylab directors both peekaboo and holiday had really great colors and atmosphere (and story!) i do NOT want another kkb/power ever again. those mvs were subpar 

I dont mind the kkb mv... I think it was the weird drop in the song that throws people off about the entire cb, I also liked the first minute of Power... until it became very childish.... I mean... a little bit of choreo wouldnt have hurt... idk what SM was thinking with that MV ..the graphics looked very silly in some shots... i have to stop myself from cringing everytime. 

anyways... i guess... it was something new so...

 

I like MVs to have a clear cinematography, good editing and replayability. Too many aestetic shots are recipes for a headache. Call me Baby was really good in that sense.

also I hate when SM entertainment puts those white/Black bars on the top and bottom of the MV, instead of making it full screen. (Lucky One,CMB... LMR,, SFY, KKB,..Universe Electric kiss...The MVs lose their sense of dynamism.

I used to think I'm as bored as you, searching for news in twitter, but you've taken it to another level 

 

I like VM Project, Blooming Day is such a good mv and song, and their past work are amazing too. So I'd either choose them or Jon. I really do like Shinee's mv this year. 

 

I like RV songs, but their mv are not my thing 

 

I also like Blooming Day and Lucky One aesthetics but the MVs needed more choreo shots. This is the con when VM Project decides to go too aesthetic. I also like LMR but the MV had so many shots per frame it was crazy

I really liked Boa's mv, the choreo looked nice. that's what I missed in Kokobop's mv: the dance scenes. I mean they were obviously there but the way they were cut was so idk awkward? Like: oh the drop starts, here's the choreo! Jk, cut! look at the washing mashine! Then they include choreo shots when Minseok comes to the front in which there's not much dancing, then during the breakdown when there's a lot of dancing: oh look floating chairs. Like whyy, the way it was cut annoyed me so much

 

And the moment I saw Power's leaked dance practice I immediately thought of those (sometimes cringy) cameras that once sm would use all the time, the ones when the time kinda slows down and it spins too. just imagine how awesome would Jongin's solo dance break with the spin look shot like that?

The squarey format aside I liked parts of Electric Kiss' mv, it kinda moved with the song for example the moment the chorus starts Kai just comes out like BAM because the way it's shot has an impact on the viewer, or the rap parts with those attached cameras, the mv moved with how the rap sounded idk I thought it looked cool

Oh god why did you remind me of the Power mv... I want to forget. The concept had so much potential... They could've given us an iconic Exordium vcr type of mv or something but they gave us whatever the hell that was lmao. I'm still bitter. Like during Exordium (and in Kokobop?) they finally managed to make the superpower concept look cool but then they just tossed it all in the trash with Power. I hope that everyone who was involved in the making of that tragic mv is experiencing sleepless nights filled with regret

Anyway I think I'd like to see a music video that focuses more on the choreo. But I guess it also depends on what the choreo looks like. In my opinion storyline mvs get you all excited at first but they don't really have replayability. And there are so many ways they can go wrong. Like they're always either too aesthetic, too cliche or take too much attention away from the song.

Tbh I don't know what I want at this point... @SM Entertainment pull some unique shit with EXO... SURPRISE ME

Tbh I'd take a winter special album over a repack anyday. EXO repacks haven't been all that much as of recently (Growl and LMR were awesome, but Lotto and Power were kind of ehhh... at least I got She's Dreaming out of Lotto's hot mess lmao), since SM tends to get lazy with them. Not to mention winter albums are unpromoted, so the boys will also have more time to rest instead of dealing with the awful camera work and shitty sound system of the music shows. But oh well, my thirsty ass will take whatever they give me.

 

Also, part of me is lowkey hoping EXO will give this big fuck you to the media and all the shitty awards shows (*cough*MAMA*cough*) and just comeback in November/December with a sexy jazzy RnB jam plus the actual album of the year and slay everyone's asses lol (I know it will never happen but a girl can still dream).

Tbh there is no Christmas without an EXO comeback

 

I don't know what is gonna happen but I hope it all works out.. I am tired of worrying more than SM employees over the next comeback.

 

And yeah middle finger to MAMA and MMA and the rest.. I have no interest in voting or sitting through the boring award shows

That aside, the album packaging was amazing. The comic book concept was very unique and beautiful... if only SM had spaced the comebacks better, it would have sold a lot more... I hadnt even gotten my The war album delivered and they already released POM

I dont think I understand the plot of the comic... so many holes to fill....do you think they will continue where they left off? Do we have a conclusion for pathcodes and Power... is  SM even following a theory?  maybe its all just random shit with exo.

According to the videomaker, the POM comic is obviously connected to the Power video. At the end of Power, Baekhyun causes a solar eclipse to reactivate everyone's power orbs and 'a new world opens up' ..... Like Baek falls into the ocean, all of them fall on earth at different locations.  Maybe this is how they arrive on earth from the EXOPlanet? And that explains the pathcodes>>> the EXO members, who have now been living with human civilisation for a while (like in the EXOrdium VCR) suddenly find their powers getting reactivated by another eclipse and reunite... and that leads to the events in the POM comic... where they are wearing their Pathcode clothes with their Power space vests?

 

Maybe the truck was a trap... (it explodes in the last page of the comic), they get captured by the enemy>>> like shown in Lucky One>>> who are the 'Red Force' and want to take away their power. Under the influence of drugs they hallucinate their suffering as a maze? i.e. Overdose... and then 'Kokobop' where they celebrate the eve before 'Monster' happens?

also I created a whole ass story in my head and have several variants of possible plot MVs connceted to their Mama/Queen, Tree Of Life, Mama MV, their life on Earth, Red Force, Overdose-Lucky One

 

BY THE WAY, do you think LuckyOne facility is just another universe' Overdose maze or Overdose=LuckyOne and in Overdose they were just on crack and saw it as creepy hollow maze.

In my opinion it's different universe. In each of them Red Force is trying to capture EXO and take their powers. But in Power it was easier bc their powers were in orbs, but in Lucky One the powers are inside them so RedForce had toexperiment on them.

 

 

Also maybe in some universes RedForce is actually Earth's people who want to capture "objects". And maybe it's Earthlanders who follow them in Pathcode (and Monster?)

 

 

SM honestly could do so much with all this shit, creat a whole story with different Universes involved (not all mb) and then idk sell it to some animation studio to make anime lmaooo

 

and Red Force is Red Velvet
